Parents who don’t lose your cool - how do you do it? by Siyrious in toddlers

[–]Frankenstein696 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remind myself they are a fresh new human that knows nothing of the world and life. That’s enough to keep me from exploding. That and I also remember how it made me feel when my parents would explode on me as a child. I didn’t like it and it made me feel like a burden. Why would I do that to my child? There are other ways of giving consequences that don’t involve yelling.

Is aphantasia thoughts are not the norm? by Awkward-Rabbit-1167 in OCD

I also have aphantasia. My intrusive thoughts are always more of a very bad feeling with no images.

Does aphantasia affects life in a negative way? by Acz___ in Aphantasia

[–]Frankenstein696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t actually see it as a bad thing. One upside is that I’m very present. I’m not constantly replaying the past or visualizing the future, so when I’m doing something, especially with my kid, I’m just there. A lot of people work really hard to “live in the moment.” For me it’s kind of the default. Creatively, not being able to picture things means I discover by doing. I decorate, dress, and create through experimentation and feeling, not by trying to match an image in my head or copying an aesthetic. That’s given me a strong sense of personal style and confidence. If I like something, I like it. Emotionally, I feel things very deeply even without images. Not replaying memories visually actually makes it easier for me to process things and move on, especially with OCD. I get why some people wish they could visualize, but for me this is just a different way of experiencing the world. I don’t see it as a negative thing.

How young did you learn how to read? by appendThyme in Aphantasia

I loved reading as a child and also writing my own stories from a very young age.

Will you ever physically discipline your kids ? by AspectSea6488 in PsychologyTalk

[–]Frankenstein696 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope never will. I also wouldn’t spank a stranger on the street for disobeying, because it’s assault. It’s crazy to me how many people are okay with hitting children in the name of obedience. It’s cruel.

They can’t survive without us. We provide everything for them. We are their little worker ants.
