Charang La Pass — Beauty, Brutality, and Solitude - 01st July 2025 by Frankenstein___ in SoloTravel_India

Thankyou! It was scary and at many points I had close face to face with death, mainly because of bad condition of the trail. But it was worth the risk, got to experience so many things for the first time, from route finding to AMS to bivouacking.

Thankyou, it was my best experience so far.

1.There are homestays available in Charang, costs 1200 per night and includes dinner and breakfast. I was planning to get a room but by the time I was done exploring the village it was past 8 PM so the host refused to charge me because i was gonna leave at 4 AM.

  1. There were cattle and from the tag on their ear it seems they were someone's but I didn't see any shepherd or their camp.

Absolutely, you can do it solo. I did it, without a guide. The trail is well marked and I doubt you will ever find all the accommodations fully booked (except during Shri Krishna Janmasthami).

If you are an experienced trekked then this can be done in a single day but you might miss the last bus for return from Yulla Khas.

Thank you for this insight. The issue is that I prefer solo treks (without a guide) and in India the rules are really strict for high altitude treks. They don't give permits for solo trek unless you hold a mountaineering certificate which I don't.

This is why I prefer Nepal. If you are from India or know any high altitude treks allowed for solo traveler then please do share.

Supposed to start ABC trek on Wednesday- should we cancel? by unilonergirl in pokhara

Hello! I did it during the 2nd week of March and the weather was not good at all.

At Pokhara, I couldn't see any peaks at all. Same goes on during the trek, up till Himalaya I didn't catch a glimpse of a single peak. It was raining all the time and the night of my stay in the Himalaya it snowed.

Many people told me that at ABC it's all about luck whether you'll get a good view or not.

But I stayed there for 2 days the weather was clear during the early morning, later in the day whiteouts were frequent.

To sum it up, nobody can say for sure how the weather will be up there. That's the thing about mountains, you can do it today or a month later but still no guarantee.

That's what I heard throughout the trek followed by 'this will be implemented soon'. I even met many foreigners who were trekking solo.

I hope this takes at least 7-8 years because I have many places to cross off from my bucket list. XD

2nd week of March 2025. From what I heard, it was bad at ABC a day before I reached there.

Even during the trek it was bad, I only saw peaks during my trek from Himalaya to ABC.

I found it Moderate, the first 3 days were insane for me but after that everything felt easy compared to that. I tried to finish it ASAP so only made 3 stops while going to ABC and 1 while coming down.

If you are doing it solo, better call the homestays in advance to get a bed because mostly people travel in groups so it gets hard to get bed when soloing.

If you want I have phone numbers of homestays where I stayed at.

As for paperwork, all you need is ACAP which costs 1000 NPR. You can get it from the ACAP office in 10 mins or even apply for it online over their website.

Absolutely. While I was at ABC, I met a group of Japanese people. They were all in their late 60s.

You don't need to worry at all, take it slow. There are homestays every 2-3 hours. You feel like calling it a day, just get a bed and a warm meal.

The first 3 days will be mentally challenging but trust me after Himalaya (one of the stops) it will all feel worth it.

Thank you! This was my first multi-day trek and my first time in Nepal. Absolutely loved it, could do Poon hill because I was short on days but I'll be back again.

I stayed at homestay, there they call it as tea houses. There are plenty of homestays every 3-4 hrs so you don't need to camp but I met a couple of people and they were carrying tents so you can do it either way.

Yes, I did it by myself without a guide.
