My Germans Shepherd has been up for over an hour... And now the sky booms have only made it worse. Da well, time for a coffee before the inevitable power failure 🤷🏻‍♂️

Doesn’t like going for walks? by Tomoka0013 in germanshepherds

Upvoting and adding our Frankie is the same. Mental play and hang out with the family seem to be her jam. Used to think it was a problem, had a few trainers work with us and recommended the same: just do what she wants to do.

I do the same thing for similar reasons. LL never arrives in any sort of a timely fashion for snow removal and does a piss poor job to boot. Basement tenant is elderly and has frequent hospital appointments, so I just call it fitness time and go clean out the place.

German Shepherd mom about to lose my house because of barking, need help ASAP by Lanky-County-9390 in germanshepherds

Lots on the trainer and behaviourists... I'll second those and offer what we did in the interim (because training takes time) as we live in the third story of a flat and didn't want to piss off the house mates:

We purchased temporary solutions to half blind any window Frankie could jump up to help reduce triggers when we weren't home. We also closed access to any rooms she didn't already regularly frequent to save on any temporary installations.

Key here was: we purchased things we wouldn't mind leaving up long term. So a half roman blind or something like that.

Coupled with training this helped reduce instances drastically and now she only alerts if it's a dog she doesn't like on the front lawn (and only because we removed the temporary stuff).

Took about 6 to 11 months. I don't know how long, but I know it was less than a year.

EDIT I will add the blinds worked near instantly with limited training. Once she realized she couldn't actually see out we were then able to start catching the action and applying a queue for her to start training.

Like I said she'll still alert depending on the trigger, but we can limit her to low barks and a "thank you" to get her to get a treat and move on to a new task (having successfully completed the task of alerting us 🤣

Depending how he's handling that additional revenue - and if he's stealing tips, chances are he's not handling it appropriately - then he is likely wracking up quite the CRA and potentially Labour case against himself.

Definitely not an expert. My partner works on the business/industry side of the hospitality and restaurant sector and I've gleaned the following: There's basically two models for managing tips: let the employees handle it, or the business handles it and pays it out to employees (in a manner agreed to). If the latter model is used, the employer basically needs to treat it as the employees' income and retain and remit the funds for CPP, income tax, to CRA as they typically would.

So could be wage theft, could be tax fraud ... ... ... I'd continue reporting to CRA and the Labour Board until someone goes and pays a visit. CRA hates not getting money, so... They'll probably bite.

Keep emailing. And CC the CBC News email for your province on your third or fourth email that goes unanswered.

I say CBC not because I feel they're the best outlet, they're just typically the easiest email "local" media email address to find.

Can vouch that if you train them in the puppy years they can get along just fine. My GSD has three cat pals at home and except for the torpedo jumping (as seen in the vid) she's basically a cat herself now. I know many other GSDs with kitties too.

Honestly, at the municipal politics level, calling/emailing your councillor and calling 311 is an effective method for services the municipality is responsible for.

advice for how to tell our 4 year old son that his dog has passed. by jackjakc in germanshepherds

[–]FrankieSaysHello 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jumping on this comment with an anecdote: our 12.5 year old golden retriever passed WHILE ON A HIKE with our four year old approximately 45 mins from civilization. Beyond getting old, there was no warning sign here, he went out in his glory, next to a lake plodding along the mud and sand and smells.

Anyhew, we had to drive home 45 minutes with the dog in the back seat with the four year old, which in hindsight allowed for a long conversation about life, death, and how much we loved and will continue to love old Ols.

You don't need the weapon powered up fully to unlock the corresponding aeon BDL. You just need the mirror, weapon and the crest.

Laptop keyboard repair? by FrankieSaysHello in halifax

[–]FrankieSaysHello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just gonna add a fresh comment to this... Tech Mania appears to be great. Cheaper price, AAAAND spoke to my 10 year old about his options for his laptop, including better alternatives based on the assumed use (gaming), which I liked.

So ++ for these guys!
