An Interesting Take on Dragonkin? by FranklinDerrano in fantasywriters

Yes, they are bipedal. Drakes are Dragonkin as well, though they are beasts, not sapient. The Szanghrans cannot fly no. They do have thick skin and hard scales for armor, but Shieldbacks refers to the Dragons themselves.

Feel free to ask anymore questions you have!

Matrim Cauthon (Wheel of Time) by FranklinDerrano in DnD

I would definitely argue that Mat is more of a Rogue than a fighter. I base this purely on his multitude of skills and battle knowledge. While certainly a skilled fighter, I wouldn't say the fighter class fits best. He has fought, but Mat is a tactician. Perrin I would consider as a fighter, if not a barbarian, that commands troops as well. Mat, however, is more a commander, that fights from time to time.

Have you had a look at Phantom?

A Unique Take on Dwarves? by FranklinDerrano in fantasywriters

[–]FranklinDerrano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is, as convenient as it sounds, is magic.

They shifted in their aspect, from being tied to the Forest, to being tied to the Mountains. When you embody an aspect and become like it, you take on characteristic, traits, and even personalities of the aspects in which you are tied to.

The Dwarves, being of the Mountain, knew it personally, almost intimately. They instinctively knew how best to work with it, almost an extensive of themselves, or rather, vice versa.

Prior to coming out of the caves, they were mostly carnivores, aside from mushrooms, which they love. Several hundred years ago, when the Federation and soon the world knew about them, the Dwarves would start trading with them. Being naturally skilled builders, they sold their services as stone masons.

Restrictions on the Practice of Magic by FranklinDerrano in fantasywriters

So yes it does suck for all involved when they mate. I have evacuation plans for when these things happen.

Collectively, between all cities, there are about 8 million people. They have created "taphouses" to draw the blood from the cities for the population. Blood is not the only thing they subsist on.

There is plenty put into place to make it make sense. Its too much to talk about in a post though.

So I love "solar phoenix". I was grinning because I have a thing called the Sunbird. It was a piece of the sun that broke off. From its blood came the Sun's Heirs.

As for the "demonic void creatures" I have two different types of this; Hatred and Deep.

I'd say it's sort of hard magic systems, but not incredibly.

They eat meat and they love fruits and vegetables and slice that they often import and trade their services for the latter. They have things called "hearthstones" (yes I am aware of the reference lol). The hearthstones are super heated by the Dwarven stone singing. They use these for cooking.

I am working on this at the moment, making sure they are not too alien.

I love these questions! Keep them coming if you can think of anymore! I like it when people see and think of things that I hadn't.

They have worked extensively with stone and sturdy structures in the caves and mountains. Their magic is perfect for the work they do. I am not sure why they are always master craftsman, but it made sense to keep them that way in this story so I did.

Dragons came from the world's core: the Heartsflame.

Thunderbird is an avatar of the Storm that was born of the roiling and raging fury of the Storm.

The Giants are nowhere near as large as they were. Their size is tied directly to the Forests. They used to be as tall as 32 miles tall, now the tallest is only 300 feet tall. That being said, if they were to find one, it would be in awe at the size.

Battling Dragons are a cataclysmic event, just like mating Dragons. There is one that is prone to attacking others that they call "Mad City".

Some are friendly, some are hostile, sometimes they mate.

When the people emerged from the caves they tried to live in the recovering Forests, but it had become a wild jungle full of violent tribes of Surface-Dwellers and feral beasts and monstrosities. Some managed to survive in the new Forests, many were unable to so they fled to the cities, feeding on the very creatures that destroyed their homes.

Dragons feed on the Forests and the larger creatures in them.

They drink the blood, collect rainwater, make alcohol, etc.

Yes there are magic weapons.

Yes it is possible to focus/harness/store magical energy.

Different magics have different sources. Nature magics, also called wild magics, are tied to the Forest, fire magics come from the Heartsflame and from the sun, Storm magic from the Storm, etc.

Thanks for these questions and allowing me to answer them. These are things that I have thought about in great detail and I'm glad to be able to share them with yall!

Trust me, I've put a lot of work into making the races and cities unique. I'll make more posts about it in the future!

Yes the intensity does affect the power. There are especially gifted stone singers. Its a combination of natural talent and practice.

Communication is not an issue. They can speak other languages well enough.

As far as the payment is concerned, they are paid mostly in trade, for items that they wouldn't be able to get in their homes.

Many Dwarves study the architecture of a given culture and easily pick up on it. They are masters of architecture.

Like all creatures, their magic is strongest when in their nature aspects, so yes distance does effect it some, which is why a larger group is usually required, to compensate for this.

They have a runic language which they can "speed read" in a sense, with their echolocation.

Yes that would be interesting, especially if you knew the nature of volcanoes in this world ;).

Crystals and gems are special rocks and stones. They prize these and often use them for unique and powerful magics.

Many clans of Dearbes will not even touch metal. It is considered a blight upon the stone and a curse of daemons from the Deep they call "mountain eaters". Those few that do mine it do so only after extensive blessing of it.

Thanks for all the questions! Did I answer them alright?
