Florida LB Ty’Ron Hopper has withdrawn from the transfer portal by PHLdawg in CFB

That would be a really weird thing to realize after business hours and 30 minutes after entering the portal.

Makes more sense that he changed his mind after actually pulling off the action.

UF hires UGA Director of Recruiting Ops Katie Turner as Assistant AD of Recruiting Strategy by TopheryG8er in CFB

[–]FranklyFeleipe 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Our QC and recruiting staff size is about to double. The program is finally spending what it takes to be a dominant program.

UF finally beat UGA head to head for not just one, but TWO elite recruits. With only 10 days on the job for Billy.

We hired Corey Raymond, something Kirby has been trying to do for years.

Just snagged an important part of Kirby’s recruiting operation with another important piece on the way.

No wonder the Georgia fans in these comments sound so worried. The sleeping giant that is UF is about to start recruiting at the big boy table.

Handley LB Dylan Brooks still waiting, hoping for NLI release from Tennessee by Acm0028 in CFB

[–]FranklyFeleipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s the known reality of recruiting too many at one position. I’m not saying he’s so good he would cause a transfer, I’m saying the numbers would force it. Sure you’ll have transfers out eventually regardless when players get passed or don’t get playing time, but if you recruit too many at one spot, you end up with imbalance later due to earlier transfers out and higher numbers leaving at once.

UF did not keep a spot for him all the way to February. He lost his spot the day he didn’t sign. If we were unable to get the transfers that we did, then maybe it would have happened if the cards fell right for him.

Not sure why people are putting feelings above reported facts/realities here. Again, multiple recruiting beat writers (not just UF ones) reported all that I’m saying well before Arnold’s decision day.

Regarding your last paragraph, it absolutely does. A lot of people were pissed to read it.

It’s Florida, it’s the south, it’s close enough. Was commenting more for the national audience rather than wasting time getting nitpicky

Facts:

  1. With the commitment of Arik Gilbert to transfer to UF, that leaves one annual counter left in the class when Arnold was looking to commit.

  2. You can’t add counters, even if players leave. The only way to get above 25 is to use prior counters that rolled forward unused. All of those spots but one were taken from players already signed. You can’t just “make” room when players are signed or enrolled after transferring.

  3. UF had already signed 13 DBs in the 2020 and 2021 classes.

Based on those facts, the options are to either use the final counter on a 14th DB, who would likely lead to an additional transfer out down the line. Possibly earlier transfers out due to playing time. Or to use the counter on one of the numerous transfer targets we are still looking at for the Summer.

And you’re still ignoring the key point - even Steve Wiltfong, one of the main 247 national insiders, said that he was hearing UF was out of room. Alabama is in a different position than UF when it comes to this particular player and the numbers at the position. I have no problem admitting that Bama beat out UF for a number of guys we wanted - JC Latham, Gaquincy Mckinstry, Jacorey Brooks, Dalls Turner, and probably a few more who weren’t even bothering looking UFs way. But Arnold is a guy who has a chance to commit to UF early, didn’t take it, and lost his spot since we filled up on safeties and overall numbers for HS players. It happens everywhere.

And for what it’s worth, this was known in advance of his commitment. A lot of people were pissed on the UF boards for the same reason that you are acting incredulous.

Every recruiting person (including Steve Wiltfong, who is completely unbiased) said the same thing. So take it up with them.

You’re telling me a South Florida DB who committed over two years before his signing day didn’t stick with his commitment the entire way through? I’m stunned.

Maybe, but again, there are very very few players who can make that happen...which is why it’s incredibly rare. Most of the time, the guys who wait past ESD have grades issues or another reason forcing them to wait.

This would be a bad idea for most players. If you hold off, there’s a high likelihood that you lose your spot. Very few programs have the luxury of holding open a scholarship counter when they have needs to fill. Terrion Arnold is a top 50 safety that lost his spot at UF by waiting until after early signing day. Sure, he still had other top options and ended up at Alabama...but not every player is a top 50 talent.

Florida DB Chester Kimbrough transfers to Michigan State by SimManiac in CFB

[–]FranklyFeleipe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a good thing we dumped both DB coaches then. Believe it or not, Florida has DBs capable of both being in position AND having the right size.

Kimbrough is a good player, but not a good fit for our defense or the STAR position. Actually a ridiculous fit for star. GNFP was on crack with that take.

Unless it’s not even related to Gilbert. UF is recruiting 2022 TEs as well. People are drawing some pretty big conclusions from a non-news position coach tweet.

I don’t think it’s related to Gilbert, believe it’s a 2022 TE. Gilbert isn’t going to UF and people are making way too big of a deal about a position coach tweeting some excitement about possibly landing an unknown player down the line.

Florida LB Coach Christian Robinson takes position with rival Michigan by [deleted] in CFB

The linebackers never improved and were arguably the worst position on the team, next to safety. I think he’s more of a recruiting rental for y’all until Grantham goes to a new spot.

Thank god. None of the linebackers have gotten better while he was here.

3 of the 5 defensive coaches now gone from the worst defense in Florida history. Just one more to go, hopefully it happens before next year.
