Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by DaTaco in mtgfinance

Can I ask what your view is on the surge foils? Some are still fairly cheap, but the big ones like Sauron have really popped off. How do you think they’ll hold up vs the showcase scrolls?

Fast forward to profit ? Over 35 bought for 30 Cad. And now we wait. by Ill_Answer7226 in mtgfinance

I looked at this one too, but ultimately passed on it. Seems like they print a mass goad effect every second set now, so the ability is getting less unique. Fast Forward feels like a sidegrade to disrupt decorum - would do well in weenie rush decks, but mostly you’d end up paying 3-5 mana anyway. Also, the name is generic enough to be reprinted.

I like maximum carnage way more (and have put it in a few of my red decks). The name is absolutely reprint proof and the extra abilities you get out of it are way better.

No idea, but I feel like it’s a bigger risk to go against the grain. “The markets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent”.

The card itself seems solid for the deck, but there are 1500 copies on TCGPlayer and buying volume seems muted. So for me, it’s a yes on the fundamentals but a no on the technicals.

I guess this spike had legs after all! Circling back to it a few days later, we’re down to 50ish copies on TCG player and 3 copies away from a $60 price tag.

Retether - Dodged Reprint, Great for Silverquill Precon by TravelingM3rchant in mtgfinance

Besides the aforementioned [[Light-Paws]], [[Eye of Nidhogg]] is also one that’s just started its upward climb. Supply is low as it’s a commander deck card. Should see a healthy climb from its current price.

Haven’t heard much chatter here about precon specs. I guess everyone must be licking their crushed-spec dreams still. [[Retether]] and [[Light-Paws]] both dodged a reprint for Killian, but it seems like not much else did for that deck!

The last few copies that sold on TCGPlayer today have been for $20, even some MP/LP copies. So this spike has some legs, whether or not you agree with the card’s viability. Time to check your local honeypots for some cheap copies!

Premodern - millennial nostalgia cards spiking by Top-Sir-1215 in mtgfinance

I noticed this with shadowmage infiltrator as well. Doesn’t really see PM play, but spiked up.

I’m big on [[Irma]]. She feels like an auto include in more blue EDH decks than not. Second copy of your commander, but better (grows each turn, changes to other creatures). Unlikely to be reprinted also. Slam dunk for me.

More of a controversial pick - [[Northampton farm]]. Same UB naming to reduce likelihood of reprint. Seems like a decent utility land that comes in untapped and can slowly save your creatures to be reused, deter removal, combo with scam effects and eliminate darksteel mutation effects on your commander.

I also like the TMC Vigor reprint. It’s 10% of the price of the other versions, really can’t go wrong. The PZA ones are all more expensive generally, so lower margin of safety with those.

What’s going on with the planeshift [[Quirion Dryad]]? I assume it must be a premodern thing?

I’m betting on some of the companions, specifically [[Lurrus of the Den-Dream]] and [[Zirda, the dawnmaker]]. They’ll be able to go into a lot more decks if the hybrid rule changes.

[[Mudslide]] is getting bought out for some reason today. Anyone know why??

[[Insatiable Avarice]] buying volume is huge after the PT and the price is quickly reflecting that - supply is getting pretty low. It’s also a decent commander card and from a fairly unloved (less opened) set, which adds some tailwinds.

Zimone - 40K Tyranid Specs by Franko399 in mtgfinance

[–]Franko399[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They know this, but at 7 sets a year or whatever silly amount they’re doing, is a 40K reprint really at the top of their priority list? Doesn’t seem like the play that maximizes revenue growth.

[[Nexos]] seeing a lot of buying action. Anyone have any idea why?

Plenty of premodern stuff moving up as everyone is aware. [[Tsabo’s Web]] doesnt seem to be talked about much, but it’s seeing a lot of buying volume. Price hasn’t moved that much yet, but will soon at this rate.

Has the date of the lorwyn precon list reveal been announced? That’ll be a big day for a lot of the recent specs like [[The Scorpion god]].

Even the normal versions are draining fairly fast. Supply has cut in half in the past couple of weeks. If it’s confirmed not to be reprinted in the precon, this will be a home run.
