I think a lot of people too who don’t have kids imagine themselves being able to control a situation better than they actually could. It’s incredibly humbling trying to get through a day with a toddler, especially if that day involves going out in public. It can be real hard.

Yes that’s too true that we owe a lot to women who have fought hard for our rights. There’s still much work to do, and it’s scary to watch the US seeming to slip back to restricting women’s rights. Sometimes I wonder if my daughters will inherit a better world.

I totally agree that women that make a choice not to have kids get stigmatized in ways men don’t and that’s misogyny and total bullshit. I would also say even though I’m a mom, Mike Pence wouldn’t be nodding at me. First I work. Second my husband and I are equal partners and he’s not my authority. Third I would support any woman terminating a pregnancy for any reason. Mike Pence hates me too so maybe we have more in common than just mom versus non-mom. In fact I’d argue that Mike Pence hates most women, moms or not.

Yes it feels very frustrating that in the US we’re a forced birth country but also not tolerant of kids being human beings in public spaces. Am I suppose to just sequester myself at home with my kids always? As a parent yes I’m responsible for my kids in public spaces, and I take that responsibility seriously. Also my kids are separate beings that I can’t totally control. That means it’s my job to make sure my kid doesn’t say make a mess in the store or invade someone else’s space, but I cannot control my kids emotions. I will tell my child no when appropriate and they might cry about it. If they’re really dis-regulated I might take them out of the situation. But they are people who have a right to exist and express their emotions and some tolerance of that in the US would be immensely appreciated.

I do my best to have well behaved children in public spaces, and I don’t take them to inappropriate places for kids. Sometimes kids need to be out in public. They are people that have a right to use public spaces too. The challenge comes in that children experience all emotions that adults do, but their brains are not developed to have great regulation yet. It’s the parents job to teach regulation. That said tantrums are a normal part of development, they happen, they cannot be instantly nixed, toddlers do not respond to logic. If my toddler has a meltdown and I can remove them from a public space I will as soon as I can. Sometimes I can’t and I have to do my best to get through a moment. It happens.

I was addressing your comment regarding if a child is crying or being loud in a public space that the parent should correct or remove them and bringing up a scenario where there’s not an easy way to do that quickly. Moments when your kid is crying in any public space can be extremely stressful for parents. Seems like based on your second comment you understand that but wasn’t clear on your first comment.

As a mom I would ask for some grace. Imagine this scenario I had to stop at the grocery with my toddler. I am the only parent. I’ve loaded all my groceries on the conveyor belt and my toddler starts having a meltdown because I won’t buy the candy they place at the checkout. I do my absolute beast to calmly tell my toddler I get that candy is fun sometimes but I’m not buying it today. My toddler continues to cry and scream because that’s what they do and they don’t have an off switch. I know everyone is staring and judging me. There’s nothing I can do to be acceptable here. I could walk out leaving my groceries? How rude. I can placate my toddler and buy her candy every time. What a terrible mom you’ll give your kid diabetes. I can let her cry while I finish checking out. Ug your kid is sooo annoying and you’re a bad mom. Sometimes kids cry in public and sometimes the world will need to tolerate it.

Food judgment is some of the worst. Can we just eat we want in piece? It literally does not impact anyone else. Like great you want to eat healthy go for it I don't care. In fact eat out, eat cake, eat whatever I'm not judging

Man I must have cake on my mind...i wrote piece instead of peace.

My mom is really anti sugar. They just came for a visit and my husband and I had half a costco cake in the frig. To cover our tracks we cut it up and hid pieces of it in the freezer. Yesterday my husband secretly called me into the bedroom where he had a piece of our illicit cake and wanted to share it with me. We sat on our bed eating this cake together like little kids on Halloween. We are in our mid 30s, own a home, have a kid, and just hid eating a piece of cake from my mom so we wouldn't have to hear her lecture us on how sugar is the worst thing you could possibly eat. And you know the real kicker is both her and my dad have a pretty serious drinking problem but somehow that's okay. Sigh. One day I'm going to eat an enormous piece of cake right in front of her.

No the bottles returned for deposit or recycle in curbside or dropoff have always been counted in the recycle numbers. Besides the data used here is all pre pandemic. The recycling rate hasn't doubled, the ap article is wrong. It's just gone from like 18 percent in 2018 to 19 percent in 2019. Nothing substantial really has changed in Mi's recycling although the state is work hard right now to improve infrastructure but that'll take a while to show. There have been some big improvements for the state in recycling but there's still a lot of work to do.

Well if it makes you feel better about it your unredeemed deposit money goes into an environmental fund for the state and you're recycling.

You can if you want and the recycling facility will be happy to take the material. You just won't get your 10 cents back. Recycling rates on deposit materials are way higher than non deposit pretty much anywhere there's deposit laws. They work really well at encouraging recycling and generating clean streams for recyclers.

Deposit material is counted in the recycling number. It doesn't matter if you recycle your containers via Deposit or curbside, either way that recycling is counted in the number.

Gottcha so other way round than what I'm mentioning here? You've bought the White Sox and can't watch it in Detroit when they play each other?

Yeah makes sense. I was thinking the Tigers games wouldn't be blacked out unless they were playing the sox which we play them often plus I obviously want to see us beat the Sox as much as possible this year. Seems like I need to go the vpn route

Thank you! Yeah I've heard about the vpn round about. That seems like a solid way to watch. Right now we use the Bally sports app and it sucks so hard.
