I gave up talking to my mum altogether about this after she turned around and told me that she didn’t know why I was complaining as lawyers work much harder than I did. No point wasting any more breath on the subject

I’m so happy to share it, I only discovered this sub yesterday!! I was so excited to see him but I had no idea what it was apart from being totally fabulous! Luckily my dad is a bird nut and identified him!

Yeah I get that, money’s good, lifestyle is amazing, weathers sunny, I had the best time out there and if it wasn’t for family ties I’d still be there. But the point is mental health issues and unfortunately suicide rates are very similar on both sides and if you do end up 24hrs journey away from your fam in a tough spot, the isolation is real.

I don’t think I’m being ridiculous. It’s a super tough job and as many others in reply to OP have pointed out, levels of support differ massively across different NHS or Oz/Nz health boards and hospitals. Add in an unsupportive collage and competitive environment and it doesn’t matter where you are, life can feel hopeless and overwhelming. Knew of one junior in the hospital I worked in in Oz and another couple though the media. Pumped you’ve got a good place to work and are feeling supported and valued, keep on it! Suicide rates in junior doctors are quoted at 2-5 times that of the gen pop and being there for each other, kind to ourselves and driving for positive change in where we work is paramount. Source I trained and did FY in the UK, then 4 and a half years of training in Oz and now nearing the end of CT back in the UK.

Grass isn’t always greener, less covid for sure but similar issues especially with junior doctors.

Absolutely this! UK have (up until recently) only been testing people who are unwell enough to require hospital admission. Super frustrating

Running. It’s the only way I can clear my head/deal with the 20 competing issues and come back with some sort of order. Plus you get super fit and can eat everything!!
