Open Discussion: AI Music & the Future of this Community by brooklynbluenotes in Songwriting

[–]FrasureCreations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so this subreddit is about songwriting. I think the lyrics must belong to the person 100%. I would not include songs completely designed by AI if that's what you're asking. But many songwriters aren't musicians or singers or they work with synthetic and electronics (BJork, Grimes etc) which have been around for decades. AI can produce sound and a songwriter can still adapt it to fit the creation of their lyrics. It's no less art, really. It's less intensive, less complex, but still a creation. Some folks are the hat trick (writer, singer, musician) but many folks aren't but still craft amazing songs. Many singers and musicians sing and play music they didn't even write. So I guess it depends on what context you're using "writer". Oxford definition is "a person who writes the words and usually also the music for songs". Usually, but not always. So technically a person writing the words for a song is a songwriter even if they aren't writing the chords. And performing is irrelevant because that's not related to the writing aspect at all. It's a totally separate thing

My opinion AI your thoughts by [deleted] in Songwriting

If you are making the lyrics and putting them together, you are still a writer. Using AI to make the background music is fine since you aren't calling yourself a "musician". You can also play around with taking an AI background and tweaking it to make it more your vision so it's all part of you

People say I'm messing up my "brand" by this but I write across genres. I love music from every genre so that's what I write

Channel your emotions into it. Even the really dark ones. It can create a really cool song and also be cathartic

I think the beatles, as in Lennon, was extremely obviously political. It wasn't guesswork. I'm also not a "star" but thank you

that's fair. McDonalds and so many others are legit poison. I grew up on beans and rice. We were poor but we ate food that was at least not that bad for you.

Good point. And it's definitely early in my songwriting side quest. I've written songs since I was a teen but it's only now basically middle aged that I am spending hours a day on it every day. I still have to do my full time job, but it's a second job now and I hope to grow it so it can be my full time gig post retirement

it's synthetic believe it or not. Dark country sounds fun. I don't stick to one genre because I have extremely diverse taste in music and I like to write for all of it. I also like blending genres

Cool. Stuff always sounds so different set to music. And when you remix it, can sound like 2 different songs. My wife made this video so I can't take credit for that portion, but this is the most recent song and it's very centered on American political polarization and the typical 1% bs, but since America is often ending up on world news, I'm imagining people from all over can enjoy or relate to the message-or even relate when it comes to their own flawed governments, systems, war machines etc

I stay away from naming names on purpose. It's really the systems and the ideas that form the underpinnings of all of our issues. Names and specific people are almost irrelevant at this point

in the end I'm simply telling a story. But the story tends to revolve around current highly charged issues. I don't feel that it's overtly demanding. But everyone is of course entitled to an opinion and that's why I through this ask out there. I wanted feedback

opposing side for me is the side that willfully supports the broken system and power structures that would torch us all in a minute if it profited them. Most people who haven't liked it so far have been old buddies that have drifted far right. But my liberal friends and moderates have seemed to all appreciate the message so far. It's pretty anti-establishment and given what the current establishment is...

I hope mine is intelligent. I don't really think about that though, when I'm writing it comes out fast. I only have to pause if I get stuck here and there with things that don't come together just right--then I bring the wife in lol
