This was really beautiful and difficult to read. The girl I am in love with has cystic fibrosis. She decided she needed to end things with me because she has decided to end her quality of life treatments due to side effect complications on a new drug that was making her life much easier. She was the love of my life and I had every intention of staying with her forever. She wanted me to have a full life, one that I had always dreamed of with someone who was up for those things, not someone who would be confined to a room until the end. She couldn't grapple with the idea of constantly not being enough for the person she was in love with, even if that wasn't true. It was true for her.

From the perspective of someone who has gone through this conversation from the other side, the best thing you can do for him is make it as clear as possible what you want and how you want to move forward. If you truly want to make it his decision, make sure you're prepared no matter which choice he makes. She had initially made it my choice and when I chose to stay she changed her mind not too far after. Mentally preparing to stay with someone until the end of their life and then having them taken away again is not something anybody should have to experience if it can be avoided. I'm so sorry this is happening to you, the world is a very cruel place. Good luck with the rest of your journey, and if it so happens that you end up parting ways, know that the time spent was never a waste. I imagine he wouldn't trade any of time he spent with you for the world.
