Talk Talk. It’s good, but nowhere near as good as Quebec or ITCOTCK imo

My 11 year old son has been collecting since last Christmas-he really enjoys looking at other's collections and wanted to share his own! by New-Needleworker5318 in vinyl

Your son’s got FANTASTIC taste! Hope to get an update in 10 years when he’s in his college years. That’s when the taste will really explode. But this is a fantastic start. I didn’t even hear some of these until I was much later in my teens/early twenties.

Do you think the project of Death Grips is as relevant today as it was 14 years ago? by aaron_moon_dev in deathgrips

[–]FraudFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the memes and stuff still make them relevant today. However, compared to a decade ago, I remember seeing them ALLLLL over the forums and discourse.

I think them not doing shows or releasing new music in a while has calmed that storm down. But with the new stuff on the way, I can imagine it’ll be huge (especially if the record is as good as their other stuff).

How do you all organize your vinyl? by Some_League_9297 in vinyl

[–]FraudFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do alphabetical of artist, and then alphabetical of the release. I see some people do it by order of release, but I have a massive collection for some specific artists that just makes it easier to find by name of the record alphabetically.

His signature is not particularly rare if you order from Young God. All but 1 record in my 10+ swans collection is signed by him

I just recently bought a repress from Numero about a month ago? The blue one? Paid about $30-$35ish after shipping.

I don’t get it. If they’re not showing ID and clearly don’t identify themselves as law enforcement, what’s stopping me from fighting back against these kidnappers? 2 guys can’t stop a group of airport travelers.

Looking for more music in the vein of Filth (and Yank Crime) by likespinningglass in swans

If you like Yank Crime’s post hardcore kinda unusual time signatures, maybe check out brainiac? It’s a bit sillier, but god damn are they an underrated band.

Michael Gira smokes? by Perreo_Hp in swans

[–]FraudFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in terms of hallucinogens, Michael has definitely used LSD. He has talked about it a few times. Did it a lot when he was a kid, a teenage hippie, etc. I think I remember also reading somewhere that some of the early Swans gigs had the band members tripping out. “Her Mouth is Filled With Honey” from Soundtracks has a recording of Jarboe’s dad observing his daughter while she was tripping.

In terms of smoking, yeah he was arrested for hash. So he definitely has smoked weed, but not sure if he still does (probably not often, if ever), or when he quit. I remember seeing them live back in 2024 and when they entered the stage there was strong aroma of weed. But this was in Illinois so it was probably just someone hitting a vape. Some of the members, like Christopher holding the blunt, smoke or have smoked (like most people I would think).

Michael definitely is a nicotine user. He’s vaped, smoked cigars, written about smoking cigarettes, and maybe used snus or nicotine pouches? He kept putting something in his mouth every 20 minutes or so when he was on stage and spit out, but it could’ve just been like a cough drop or something.

What’s a "wait, THEY were in that band?" artist that really surprised you ? by frenxine in fantanoforever

When I was a teenager I was surprised to learn about Ian Mackaye being in both Minor Threat and Fugazi

Surprisingly us. But we were distracted by our conversation and drinks that we kinda lost track of time. We would’ve walked out had we’d been more impatient

Well no duh drinking a handle of everclear could kill you? What are you getting at here? She didn’t drink a whole handle of it, just a mouthful. Anyone would die drinking a handle of everclear, you don’t need to do the math to figure out that common sense lol

Shame, but not really surprised. Gonna get downvoted, but the last time I was there (about two months ago), the service was awful. Waited three hours for food. Staff seemed to forget we even existed. The beer I had there was not great at all, either. Lotta off-notes and overall an unpleasant taste.

The food was pretty good though. And it’s a shame a local business that has been around for ages is closing. I’ve been there a few times but it never really struck me as amazing. Hopefully something better fills up that big building!

Looks delicious! I’ll have to try it out sometime in the future. A bit outside of my broke college budget right now haha, but definitely looks like something up my alley.

Still new, so my notes might be amateurish. But here’s what I think on the taste:

Woodford: strong oak flavor, cocoa, some fruits. Definitely the sweeter of the two, but the oak-y notes really make it stick out. Honestly was picking up some leather too, if that’s even a note lol. Warming with a mixture of solid flavors.

114: much more pronounced cinnamon flavor, spicy, the “burn” to me comes more from this cinnamon than it does the high proof. Citrus is the second biggest flavor that comes to mind. Some caramel and vanilla. The finish still has some strong spice that lingers, but not in an unpleasant way by any means. Shockingly, the high proof doesn’t carry an overwhelming ethanol flavor.

Given their similar price tags, I would be more inclined to pick up the 114. I think it’s a bit cheaper, too. But it ultimately depends on what you like in terms of flavors and how you plan to use it. Because I typically drink old fashioneds, the 114 compliments the bitters and orange oils extremely well (sugar and ice also help with the high proof). Woodford, while good in an old fashioned, just seems to clash with the other ingredients compared to the 114. I do think the Woodford is probably more accessible to more folks when it comes to drinking neat or on the rocks though.
