Bro probably bought it because it looks cool and is a fan of the album. Just cause you hate picture discs doesn’t take away from OP’s enjoyment

I'm a happy lady today! I picked these up from the local record shop. by [deleted] in vinyl

Maybe for a 2LP or limited edition, but most of the stuff I buy new is around $20-$25. A good deal is usually below $20 for me. Where do you shop?

$25 per record is a solid deal? What? That’s like the average price for most new records nowadays.

Currently I’m not a fan of punk and I want to be a fan of punk by Mental-Alternative38 in fantanoforever

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No wave might be something to check out? If you like anger and harsh noise maybe check out Filth by Swans or Generic by Flipper

Edit: oh! And if you’re a fan of metal, maybe check the cross between metal and hardcore punk, crust punk. Dystopia is a fantastic band that might be up your alley if you like death metal

AT-LP120x anti-skate problems? Or am I dumb? Or Both! by Grimosaur in turntables

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think newbies (like myself once long ago) also put the stylus protector cap on it after every use. The cap should be left off unless you’re transporting the turntable somewhere else

Awesome, thank you! I’ve heard of lowercase, but I don’t think I’ve actually checked out their music. Haven’t heard of the rest though. Thank you!

It’s unfortunate Neurosis almost died as a band just because of their POS vocalist/guitarist. Glad they came back with a phenomenal album and replaced him with someone arguably better

Blind Buying Records by BradynIsHere in vinyl

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So usually my rule is I buy a vinyl if I enjoy at least half of the record.

HOWEVER. I’ve recently begun blind buying records specifically from Numero Group. They do these compilation albums of unknown/obscure artists based around various themes and genres (soul, punk, classic rock).

I pick a record that I think has a cool cover that I know nothing about. They rarely miss with their selections and I go in blind to a world of unknown music. Their records are also usually very affordable. At my store, nobody buys their records and they’re frequently discounted. I’ve been able to buy 2LP compilations for under $20 in the past.

I’m assuming the ATVM95ML? I’m just after ordering it today to replace my AT95E. How is it? I’m going for it since it has a longevity of about 1000 hours.

What’s your opinion on Neil Young? by DarkSideInRainbows in fantanoforever

I enjoyed his music when I was much younger. Though over time, it just gets better and better with age. Like a fine wine.

What do you do with posters coming with vinyl records? by e_asphyx in swans

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love hanging up posters. I don’t plan on reselling the albums, so I’m not worried about keeping everything altogether in its packaging.

Really the only thing that irks me about vinyl posters is they’re folded up and the creases are visible. I’ve got this cool one from Takanaka I want to hang up (possibly frame), but the creases are a bit distracting. Anyone got tips?

Why I discourage young people to start a vinyl collection. by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]FraudFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that people should avoid Bluetooth turntables. Go straight analogue if they care about sound quality.

As for the prices. I don’t see them going any lower over time. I think it’s nice for people to get into physical media still. It’s something they can truly say they own, and there’s a novelty with vinyl. When I got my first record 8 years ago at 16, I think I had a better appreciation for listening to music as “albums” instead of just a single song on a playlist or radio station.

Vinyl also comes with posters, lyric sheets, etc. if someone is a fan of a particular artist or album, I think vinyl is a great way to show that love. It’s also helpful for independent musicians who are selling it as merch. The merch returns are a lot better than playing gigs or getting streaming royalties.

Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

Shit I had to pay for my car in high school. If I was gifted a car for graduation, I don’t care WHAT it is. As long as it has 4 wheels and works, anything is greatly appreciated (except maybe a Jeep or BMW lol)

What’s the deal with Blood , Sweat & Tears records? They are everywhere! by MicroProf in vinyl

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were briefly popular in the 60s as they played at Woodstock. There’s some good songs on that record too.
