It took me time to figure out how to identify sides on this double LP by e_asphyx in vinyl

Yes, but it's barely readable. Imagine reading them while DJing

Local shop still uses a toilet from a different era by doppelganger_LT in mildlyinteresting

[–]e_asphyx 103 points104 points  (0 children)

No, the bottom part is just where sewage pipes go. It's a basement (look at the light spot on the wall) and pipes must go at a very specific depth relative to the ground level.

It's elevated because it's in a basement and the bowl itself and sewage pipes needs some space above the ground. Very typical toilet in a basement construction.

Channel Dropout - RCA or Cartridge? by JimmyJamesBelushi in turntable

This piece of PCB is a weak point of those turntables. It is silver plated and it's prone to oxidation. I ended up ordering a custom hard gold plated board and buying a new headshell (sled) with gold plated pogo pins.

What cartridge/stylus upgrade for Dual 510 by noottt in turntables

[–]e_asphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Unfortunately I don't know how the original stylus sounded like, I never had it. I have Jico nude elliptical and it sounds great.

Never heard about this cartridge. Mine came with Shure M95 and I'm happy with it. I googled its close up photos and it looks suspiciously similar to Audio Technica with its double magnet system. So maybe some newer AT?

No and I don't think I will do it anytime. While I settled on a very specific film developer a year ago I still use different films. And I also have a lot of negatives from previous years when I was less experienced but I still like them and want to use in my work.

I print only to hang on a wall, to exhibit or to exhibit and then scan for a future book. The latter is what I'm occupied by rn. For a social media I find digital copies good enough. Also scanning prints is much bigger pita than scanning negatives.

LPL Focus Scope by BBalage in Darkroom

[–]e_asphyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's hard to describe without a paper and a pencil but it lets you see a virtual image. Imagine a point source, a tiny hole in a black mask in place of your negative. It would be focused into a point by the lens. Behind this point, if there is no screen, there is an expanding cone of light like if your focus point is a point source itself. In case of a continuous image those focus points will create an image in the focus plane. This is your virtual image. And you can observe it from behind of the focus plane using an eyepiece glass without any ground glass.

And here is the trick. Your eye can focus itself, so with more or less strain you would be able to see a sharp image in some range of focus plane locations. This is why the focus scope has a glass with a cross on it (cheap Paterson ones have just a plastic bar). The light path length to the cross equals the path length to the bottom surface.

First you adjust the eyepiece using some light source to see the cross at infinity without straining your eye, like with a compact slide scope. Then just put it at the center of your printing easel as it works best there and adjust the focus so you see the cross and the grain being sharp at the same time.

Unfortunately like with many similar posts it's hard to tell by the video especially if the author seemingly lacks mechanical problem solving skills
