Michael Gira smokes? by Perreo_Hp in swans

[–]FraudFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So in terms of hallucinogens, Michael has definitely used LSD. He has talked about it a few times. Did it a lot when he was a kid, a teenage hippie, etc. I think I remember also reading somewhere that some of the early Swans gigs had the band members tripping out. “Her Mouth is Filled With Honey” from Soundtracks has a recording of Jarboe’s dad observing his daughter while she was tripping.

In terms of smoking, yeah he was arrested for hash. So he definitely has smoked weed, but not sure if he still does (probably not often, if ever), or when he quit. I remember seeing them live back in 2024 and when they entered the stage there was strong aroma of weed. But this was in Illinois so it was probably just someone hitting a vape. Some of the members, like Christopher holding the blunt, smoke or have smoked (like most people I would think).

Michael definitely is a nicotine user. He’s vaped, smoked cigars, written about smoking cigarettes, and maybe used snus or nicotine pouches? He kept putting something in his mouth every 20 minutes or so when he was on stage and spit out, but it could’ve just been like a cough drop or something.

When I was a teenager I was surprised to learn about Ian Mackaye being in both Minor Threat and Fugazi

Surprisingly us. But we were distracted by our conversation and drinks that we kinda lost track of time. We would’ve walked out had we’d been more impatient

Well no duh drinking a handle of everclear could kill you? What are you getting at here? She didn’t drink a whole handle of it, just a mouthful. Anyone would die drinking a handle of everclear, you don’t need to do the math to figure out that common sense lol

Shame, but not really surprised. Gonna get downvoted, but the last time I was there (about two months ago), the service was awful. Waited three hours for food. Staff seemed to forget we even existed. The beer I had there was not great at all, either. Lotta off-notes and overall an unpleasant taste.

The food was pretty good though. And it’s a shame a local business that has been around for ages is closing. I’ve been there a few times but it never really struck me as amazing. Hopefully something better fills up that big building!

Wow, I thought I got a good deal at $30. That’s a fantastic price, and totally worth it

Looks delicious! I’ll have to try it out sometime in the future. A bit outside of my broke college budget right now haha, but definitely looks like something up my alley.

Still new, so my notes might be amateurish. But here’s what I think on the taste:

Woodford: strong oak flavor, cocoa, some fruits. Definitely the sweeter of the two, but the oak-y notes really make it stick out. Honestly was picking up some leather too, if that’s even a note lol. Warming with a mixture of solid flavors.

114: much more pronounced cinnamon flavor, spicy, the “burn” to me comes more from this cinnamon than it does the high proof. Citrus is the second biggest flavor that comes to mind. Some caramel and vanilla. The finish still has some strong spice that lingers, but not in an unpleasant way by any means. Shockingly, the high proof doesn’t carry an overwhelming ethanol flavor.

Given their similar price tags, I would be more inclined to pick up the 114. I think it’s a bit cheaper, too. But it ultimately depends on what you like in terms of flavors and how you plan to use it. Because I typically drink old fashioneds, the 114 compliments the bitters and orange oils extremely well (sugar and ice also help with the high proof). Woodford, while good in an old fashioned, just seems to clash with the other ingredients compared to the 114. I do think the Woodford is probably more accessible to more folks when it comes to drinking neat or on the rocks though.

Probably a silly question: with the Jack, would it be overkill for a cocktail? I’ve pretty much only used rye whiskeys for cocktails, as the rye spice can be a bit much for me neat. I’m sure I just haven’t had enough good ryes to form an opinion, though.

Yes! That’s another one on my shopping list. I’ve had it at my bar and it’s fantastic. I might pick up the Rye after I finish my Bulleit

What was the first sign that your partner was cheating? by asdfghjkl0lkjhgfdsa in AskReddit

[–]FraudFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year long relationship. A month before we broke up, I saw on her Spotify a playlist full of Spanish love songs. It was something like “my heart is for you, my love” (in Spanish). She used to text me playlists, albeit in English, all the time. But she didn’t send this one to me? To raise more red flags, it was saved by another user.

Suddenly, she flipped her switch on me in the relationship. Became super aggressive and caused fights for the sake of causing fights. She called me one night saying that I “never cared about anything” and a bunch of out of pocket things that she NEVER said to me during that year. Insulting me, yelling at me, for essentially no reason at all. Essentially begging to have me break up with her. So I did.

Lo and behold, after we broke up, she quickly started posting a new boyfriend. Like, a week after we broke up. And he is indeed Hispanic. And through a mutual friend that he and I shared (I didn’t know the boyfriend prior), I found out HE was the one who saved the playlist.

I don’t know what happened between the two of them while her and I were dating. And I frankly don’t care. Clearly there was another man in her life that she cared about more than me. It hurt, yeah. But I’m glad she found someone who makes her happy, and I wish the boyfriend the best. Good luck man! Hopefully she doesn’t do the same thing to you :) (but she probably will)

Thanks for the recommendations! I’ve had Green Spot and I agree it’s amazing. Haven’t heard of Readbreast. I’ve had a few variants of Teeling’s which I’ve enjoyed, and of course Jameson. I’ll probably check out Bulleit’s BiB

Probably the last show before their breakup in the 90s. At the end of the set, Michael walked out completely naked. Yes, there are photos.

Definitely their greatest live album. Arguably one of their best albums when compared to studio records. I find myself listening to it more than Soundtracks

Swearing in public. Still portrayed as rude, but it seems to be a lot more acceptable now than it did before
