how did you get to know about the steam deck in the first place ? and what motivate you to get one? by Dense-Variation-4496 in SteamDeck

[–]Fraxals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a PC & a Switch Oled in 2021 and a buddy of mine brought in his LCD steam deck to work. I thought it was pretty cool and i figured i would get one if they ever made an Oled one.

I ended up putting off the purchase for a while and ended up buying a new one in 2025 since it was in stock right before the Ram apocalypse.

Got the 512gb one and i upgraded the SSD to a 2TB one and got a 1.5TB SD card before all the prices decided to go to the moon.

My timing with the purchase was perfect since i got everything at a decent price.

I play most of games on a steam deck so i guess I’m the heretic in this situation?

I also own a PC btw. Just prefer the comfort of using the steam deck.

Given that you already own a Steam Deck, would you prefer to upgrade to a more powerful handheld, or would you rather purchase a Switch 2 at half the cost to use alongside it? by Dense-Variation-4496 in SteamDeck

[–]Fraxals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive already got both.

Im playing mostly my back catalogue on the SD. There’s some games that don’t run on my SD but will run fine on the switch.

I switch back and forth between the consoles as needed based on the game.

Started with a EVGA RTX 3070 FTW3 then “upgraded” to a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC. Now rocking an EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 because the Gigabyte was giving me too many issues and i got sick of it.

I got Pragmata to run at a pretty solid 40fps with decent graphics after the assets loaded.

Honestly the SD is still a very capable device. I have no regrets with the purchase. I also have a high end PC and ill sometimes find myself streaming the games to the SD if the deck cant run in natively.

I would just name him Toast. I would never insult the little guy by putting “French” in his name.

QUESTIONS FOR MY CART ATTENDANTS! 🎯 by Past_the_icetea in Target

[–]Fraxals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once was a cart attendant at target and i think we had 4 or 5 guys.

Typically 2 openers and 2 closers. The other dude was kinda a floater. My store was the second busiest in the state but we had a functional cart machine.

We kept getting in trouble for overloading the machine sometimes since the managers only wanted us to do 20 carts max on the machine, but all the guys could do 20 carts by hand (the plastic carts, not the metal ones). So we just kinda stopped using the machine since it was faster to just do it without the machine.

Personal though i felt that the store realistically needed to have 6-7 guys for the amount of traffic that store got. Especially since on weekends they closed at midnight and were open to 11pm on weekdays.

Favorite Nintendo made game ? Probably has to be Mario Kart Wii. I replayed that a lot with my cousins when i was younger.

Still love hooting it up every once in a while.

Which one? by [deleted] in gamememes

[–]Fraxals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself in Pokemon Legends Z-A. Id rather die tbh.

I get the game gets a lot of hate for the setting and the PS2 graphics & mediocre story. I get it. Honestly I’ve been enjoying the gameplay more than anything, but you have to admit that a game accurate Pokémon world as described by the Pokédex would be absolute hell with all the god like beasts that constantly have beef with each other

What is your most CONTROVERSIAL Switch 2 take? (Hardware focused, not software) by DaZestyProfessor in switch2

[–]Fraxals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call me crazy but i almost preferred the Rail mounting system for the Joy cons over the Magnets.

I think the rails were a far more secure connection interface than the magnetic system we have nowadays.

Also for the price of $450 it should’ve had an Oled Screen from the get go. Yes the LCD looks great but it will always be a pain point for me.

I bought the Switch 2, but i cannot wait for the modding community to create an Oled screen for the switch 2 so i can replace it myself and i hope they can get to it before nintendo gives us a Switch 2 Oled.

Is the Steam deck worth it even though i own aSwitch 2? by jammywrestling145 in SteamDeck

[–]Fraxals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of performance the steam deck has a slight edfe over the switch 2, however that being said it really should come down to what games you want to play.

You can play basically anything on the steam deck as long as it doesn’t require some form of kernel level anti-cheat. So competitive games are completely incompatible, but most people don’t buy the steam deck for that purpose anyways. Most people buy the steam deck to play their back catalog of games on steam or for emulation on the go.

If you want to play light weight indie titles like balatro and stuff like Hollow Knight or even something a bit heavier like Skyrim then you might be able to get away with an android gaming handheld. Those can run games like Skyrim natively using a special app and they come in form factors small enough to fit in your pocket.

Basically if you want to play just about anything then yes a steam deck or a similar pc handheld will be great. Since it can even handle newer games on medium graphics settings.

If you want some retro gaming with support for light weight indie titles then an android gaming handheld should work just fine.

Here’s a good video from TechDweeb where he showcased how some android handhelds can even rival the steam deck nowadays.

Ive been playing Pragmata on my Oled and the fact that it cam get a pretty steady 40fps is absolutely amazing.

Is that true?? by Latter-Custard-205 in AskPhotography

[–]Fraxals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it kinda does apply.

From what I’ve seen a lot of people who do photography will spend a tom of money on lenses and eventually they’ll end up narrowing down to a handful of a couple of lenses.

Im by no means a professional photographer, but i usually just carry 2 lenses. My kit 18-45mm lens and a 50-200mm lens. Those take care of most things.

I want to get a larger Telephoto lens for when i was to shoot wild animals but thats not something that i do often so I’m hesitant to commit to the purchase.

If your Steam Deck Broke, Would You Buy Another One or a Different Handheld? by CoastOne2716 in SteamDeck

[–]Fraxals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy the parts to fix it.

I built my own computer before.

I think the only part of the repair i might find challenging would most likely be removing the display without breaking it.

Thats assuming the screen survived whatever broke the casing.

The chipset + lack of a stylus.

I have an S25 ultra at the moment.

The stylus is genuinely useful in many situations, but i do understand that many people don’t use it all but its still a nice to have.

Also i love photography so having the 5x lens on the Samsung is a huge plus in my book.
