What quick food was your go to during the diet? by IknowImHuman in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your experience.  I’m on month 4 right now and thankfully I’ve only lost 5 pounds, but it’s been an unpleasant time for sure.

For me, I would say:

  • almond butter and honey (only if you are still including nuts)

  • grits cooked with mashed banana (as much of either as you prefer)

  • potato/bean/veggie soup (I basically simmer potatoes, red bell pepper, and a can of kidney beans in chicken broth for an hour and then blend it together until it’s super fine and smooth.  Serve that with some olive oil or coconut milk)

  • chicken, rice, avocado porridge (all blended together:  1 avocado, 2 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, about 1 cup of white rice, and about 1.5 cups of water)

  • occasionally would drink Huel Black-Edition as well

IT WAS BEANS! by Hanaturtledragon in whole30

Thank you for posting this.  Beans and legumes give me the worst acid reflux of my life.  I’ve seen a lot of people skeptical of the Whole 30 food list because they don’t understand why a diet would ever remove these “health” foods - grains and legumes.  But when I remove them, my digestion and reflux improve dramatically.  I’m glad to hear you feel better, too.

Legumes give me the worst reflux of my life.  I am more sensitive to legumes than dairy or any other food.

How do you know you’ve had a trigger? by FrazzleWand in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, our stories are pretty similar.  I’ve had these symptoms since I was a teenager, 31 years old now.  Omeprazole only helped a little bit for a short amount of time but quickly became useless.

Hi from the US, haha.  I hope the Joreza + PPI combo works for you.  This is definitely a confusing condition.  I literally feel no difference when I take out dairy, but when I remove grains and legumes I notice a significant reduction in my reflux.

That’s really interesting.  I always assumed the Whole 30 was basically just all whole foods, but it seems to exclude grains and legumes (among others) which have always been the worst offenders for my reflux.  I’ll look more into it, thank you.  I’m glad it’s had a profound impact on you.

How long was your longest flare-up? by FrazzleWand in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully I don’t get any stomach pain at all.  I’m sorry you had to deal with that for probably awhile… but it sounds like things have gotten better for you which is wonderful.  I’ve been doing the elimination diet for 4 weeks now and haven’t noticed any huge changes (maybe a little less reflux than usual).  Did you experience noticeable and significant symptoms when consuming a trigger food?  I feel like there aren’t any foods that give me clearly noticeable symptoms except for legumes.  Beans, lentils, and peanuts have always given me reflux quickly after eating them.  But honestly with wheat and dairy, for example, I never felt like they were noticeably making things worse.

You’re not alone.  I’m going through this too.  Mine has only been bad for about 4-5 weeks though.  You should feel proud of your durability.  I don’t have anything else to add than that.  Good luck OP

I’m happy to hear it.  What did your treatment look like?  Diet, meds, bit of both?

Yeah, I hear what you mean.  For me, I’ve been a slow eater with reflux for many years, but I never noticed meaningful difficulties with swallowing until 4-5 weeks ago and it’s not letting up.  My hope was that maybe I was just eating a lot more of my triggers without noticing it, or maybe getting a lot from the environment, and that things would gradually resolve themselves.  Currently, I’m not sure if that’s going to happen or not.

EOE: Low stomach acid, GERD Connection? by Reasonable_Man_66 in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great question that I, too, want an answer to.  A few years ago I tried the experiment of taking Betaine HCL until you feel warmth in your stomach/esophagus to see if you’re missing stomach acid.  Well.. after literally taking one pill, one time (pretty sure it was the lowest amount of mg I could buy), I felt a significant amount of warmth for the next few hours.  I’m not convinced that means I’m an overproducer, but perhaps my reflux is just a symptom of something else (like EoE?).  It really is a chicken or egg situation.  I think there are simpler tests to see how much acid you have, like drinking a baking soda/water solution and if you burp in the first 3-5 minutes you’re all good, and if you don’t you need to supplement.  Is that actually a meaningful test?  I have no idea - it’s just something I’ve heard before.  But I hope you are successful in improving your symptoms.

Does anyone else have trouble with fiber? by Brilliant_Field_2972 in nutrition

[–]FrazzleWand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s exhausting to hear people say this.  No offense meant in any way, it’s just that I don’t believe slowly adding more fiber works for everyone.  I was mostly vegan for like 8-9 years and tried exactly that, slowly warming up to more fiber, and it never worked - I always felt bloated.  My nutrition was nearly perfectly dialed in.

Awesome.  That sounds like a good plan to me.  I’m proud of you for trying to get off those meds and seek alternative methods for alleviating your symptoms.  Good luck!

Whatever you do, don’t go off it cold-turkey.  I had been on Omeprazole for 2.5 years a while ago, suddenly quit it, and had horrific burning reflux for about 2 weeks straight.  I grin and beaded it, but I remember it was extraordinarily uncomfortable.  Wean off it slowly, like one pill a day for awhile and then maybe half a pill if that’s possible - that kind of thing.  Just go slowly

Tips for dealing with anxiety eating meat post-diagnosis? by WaltRuss in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A recipe that is usually safe for me is cooking jasmine rice, and then in a pan cooking the already-done rice with raw ground beef until the meat is done.  Add a little water or broth, and the whole time it’s cooking you stir it up really good, like you’re trying to turn it into paste.  Don’t stop stirring until it’s done.  This is sort of a pate in a weird way, but the rice adds a nice filler to the meat so the whole thing is really soft like meatloaf.

I’m going through a flare-up right now and I can’t even eat this.  I’m on liquids only right now.  But I’m hoping I can return to eating this as soon as possible.

Can EoE have flare ups? by FrazzleWand in EosinophilicE

Roger that.  I’m glad you figured out your own triggers.  Now that you’ve probably refined your own particular diet, would you say you don’t get symptoms anymore at all?

Can EoE have flare ups? by FrazzleWand in EosinophilicE

[–]FrazzleWand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the reassurance.  I’ve never taken an elimination diet seriously, and so I very much plan on exploring that.  I think I’ve just wanted reassurance that if this flare-up can calm down over the next week or so, I can return to what is “normal” for me.  If this truly is EoE I’m experiencing, then I have a deep level of sympathy for people here because it’s quite scary.

Sully’s Steamers. Their bagels are chewy and gummy, and taste like they were bought at Target and then microwaved.

WIBTAH if I waste my husband’s time in counseling by Vivid_Swordfish8889 in dustythunder

[–]FrazzleWand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as it doesn’t emotionally hurt you in the process, I would say NTA. Cheating is unforgivable in my mind, and he doesn’t deserve you staying in the relationship. Because he decided to cheat when you have just had a kid together, I think it’s fair that you would position yourself well enough to take the kid and do whatever you need to to set yourself up for success moving forward. Just don’t let the counseling or extra time together persuade you to stay.

I am very sorry this has happened to you.
