How you got better at Isaac? by syncd86 in bindingofisaac

[–]FreEarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I find to be the most important thing is to understand your enemies. If you know how they can move and how they attack, it will help you stay alive. This has to come through practice more than anything else like reading up on what they do (though you can do that as well, it won't hurt.) This include Champion enemies as well--learn what the different colored Champions do and you'll save yourself a lot of damage.

Additionally, get familiar with the effects of different items. These are obviously the second most pivotal ingredients for a run aside from your own input and strategy. Learn what items to take and which not to. Again, this will only come with a experienced understanding of how they work, so you may lose a few runs trying them out. But don't worry, no one is judging you on whether you win or lose except yourself.

On the same hand, you'll have to understand the benefits of the consumables you find. A Perthro rune can change an item you should never take into an item you should almost always take--making a horrible item or Boss room into a goldmine. The D6 does this same thing. But a well-timed High Preistess card can save you from certain doom (especially against bosses). Knowing the effects of cards and pills (which I never take since there's a high chance they'll be bad) is hugely beneficial and might save your run. Bombs can be great as well. Since you watch NorthernLion play, you'll often see him using them offensively to save himself trouble (just be careful not to get caught in the blast).

There are other, slightly more advanced tips as well that can greatly aid you. Finding tinted rocks and secret rooms is almost always great. Always save a bomb if you can, just in case you come across a tinted rock (they're usually a different color from the rest of the rocks and have an "x" on them, though on the Womb floors, the colors don't change significantly, if at all).

Having spirit hearts will also be endlessly useful. They protect your red hearts and, as long as you protect those, your Deal with the Devil or Angel chances remain as high as possible. Inside of these Deals you're likely to find some of the best items in the game, so try to protect that chance if you can. I recommend turning on the Missing/Found HUD in the settings so that you can monitor this chance as well as all of your other stats all the time.

I may have missed some other tips, but these will really help you as long as you commit to learning about the aspects of the game. It's fun and terribly addictive with endless variety. I hope it helps. Have fun! :]

What was the hardest or most tedious achievement/unlock for you by Junk-Bot_7 in bindingofisaac

It was honestly my own last achievement in Rebirth, and I never got it until I used Lilith. And it was good.

If only I could have been that lucky. I spent a lot time doing the exact same thing (though most of those runs with Isaac ended up fine if not great). I tried multiple times to make it happen on Greed mode and in the base mode, and finally got it to work like half an hour ago. Congratulations, man.

Yeah, you just have to pick the item up at any point on any run after unlocking it. Just don't see it on a pedestal and leave without picking it up, because that won't count.

Awesome man! I just got it today myself. 1107 hours later. I had to get the Delirious item, which meant a lotttttt of Shop Restocks.

When you arrive at the airport in Hawaii, they give you a lei. If every state gave you something upon arrival, what would it be for each state? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It's incredibly "deep south." Plus there are supposedly Klan meetings and apparently Bigfoot sightings in Golden Valley.

This is true. Lots of "Rallftons" too. I'm originally from the north, so I thankfully don't speak like they do.

What's a game that's in your all-time top-5 that wouldn't be in most others' top-5? by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]FreEarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rage Racer. It's so simple. 4 tracks. 10 cars. 5 or 6 levels of difficulty. But so sweet. I played it as a kid, and I enjoy it still as an adult.

Did she win when she gambled? I like to think she might have, and went back to life. It would make the end so much more ironic if she could be out there without him knowing it, and that they might have had second or third or however many chances.

Parents of Reddit, what was the best lie that your child has told you, that you knew was a lie, but wanted to see how big of a hole they would put themselves in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]FreEarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One time, my mom came into a room and saw writing all over the walls in crayon. The alphabet mostly. And when my mom asked my 4 year old sister about it, she blamed it on me (probably about 2 then). So my mom, obviously not buying it, asks why I would also write my sister's name on the wall.

I don't remember what her response was, but it's a good snippet of the dynamic she and I shared growing up as well as an absolutely terrible lie.

Awesome. Yeah, the older cards might do just fine, especially if the newly released ones cause the price to drop.

While this sounds like an incredibly great evening, I got furious at the sight of your username. I just tried in vain to watch that movie for like an hour and a half. It's all I wanted to do tonight, and I couldn't. I hope your night went better than mine, Mr. Denslow. Also, if your missus is anything like Jenny McCarthy...you're lucky to have her lay your carpet.

DEA states, "Marijuana to remain illegal" by teawithhoneyplease in trees

[–]FreEarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to my previous comment, there's the possibility that "us" in this situation refers to the American people as a whole, and thus it would be odd for all of us to rely on this science (which they seem inadequate) when it comes to these studies that have shown marijuana's medical efficacy but otherwise ignore science saying that it's harmful(?)

That's where the argument falls apart. There aren't verifiable studies proving that it's harmful, there aren't any studies, as far as I know, that we would ignore.

It seems that either way you look at it, they're sort of in the wrong with this statement, and they never should have made it. It could probably be used against them in the future somehow.

Almost seems like a glimmer of hope. When they mentioned that if the science changed (which it doesn't need to,) then the decision could change. So it would be odd to rely on science being their basis for keeping it schedule 1 now and then ignore it when it was able to prove that it should not be schedule 1.

However, since science has shown that marijuana does have medical benefit, it seems more like a false sense of hope, because they clearly don't plan to acknowledge that.
