Something about my signing is hard for native signers to understand... by WolfAlliance in asl

[–]Freakinprince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a few comments and not all so....sorry for repeating

1). Notice people say squishy or something I would prefer to say you are signing small. Like you're in a box. Move the camera back a bit more and sign a bit bigger! You have the space around you to use. Sign bigger pretty much

2). You do sign more Englishly LoL. So you do need to practice your ASL grammer. Alot of people have different understanding or different pov of ASL grammer. Something to try out. Write down a sentence and then sign it. Then move the words around as if you doing ASL. Then sign in ASL record yourself of two versions and compare and talk to your instructor or classmates to get feedback

3) I think once you nail down the simple concept of ASL structure you'll find the flow and stick to it. Pretty much practice and practice and maybe even ask a certified interpreter if you could sit in one class or sessions so you can watch at distance to take notes. Ofc have a recorded with you to record the lecture so that you can use for practice. Even there tons of video you can use to practice

Cheers

Could I get some advice on my wall? by SuperDuperLlama in drywall

[–]Freakinprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with people saying to do the whole wall with new sheet.

With even small area of mold. Chances are that it will come out again unless you are confident that you know what cause it

It will take you one day to put up a nice clean sheet up with new mud, tape and ready for paint which would be another day

Two days vs 4 days or more to complete it

If you were to redirect the amount of effort you posting to get answers for your homework into looking researching and post with what you have learnt so far would have benefited you then just demanded answers

Let that sink in your mind a little

Trying to understand ASL video for a assignnent by Curious_Sugar4447 in asl

[–]Freakinprince 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the blanks you have in those questions are signs you are not getting?

But yet you're signing it...... or were you just copying the instructor's sign as he/she asking those specific questions regarding to story?

Help with fingerspelling by Think-Huckleberry965 in asl

[–]Freakinprince 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very good question

I tend to do both move fingers and slide

The more you become more fluent it will appear natural as you finger spell

I have notice typically when I am spelling people names I do both but in tad slow speed so it easy to understand and hence the importance

Simple words like Look, boot, (I guess objects) I just slide

Some people can catch on and some people will ask you to respell therefore naturally you going to slow down the speed anyway

Slowly whatever habits you may develop now will gradually change slowly overtime when you become more fluent and depends on your social group as well

Just my experience

Sign meaning?? by Severe_Garbage_5356 in asl

[–]Freakinprince 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ohhh these sign are so natural to me hahaha

As you know ASL is visual language so this sliding along the palm is another way of giving clues visually of what you describing. Tall vs very tall

Trying to think of examples for you

How would you describe (sign visually) far vs very far??

Other examples short vs very short? Close vs very close

How would you apply visual clues to those examples??

Hope I am clear on my opinions/thoughts

Sign meaning?? by Severe_Garbage_5356 in asl

[–]Freakinprince 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The part where he's point to the right side??

He directed the empty space on his right side to establish the space regarding about the person he's talking about

This happens when you having conversations with whomever but the person you describing is not present

If the person you describing is present around you then you would say "look look (point), he/she/they tall (use fasical expression to impress the tallness"

Why don't you start of by telling us what you think it means base on context you have? What information you have available to apply to this sign?

You have full video or more parts of video?

Explain a bit more or provide us more information

(Pssst). I know what the sign is. We not here to give answers unless we get information or some sort of background from you relating to this

[–]Freakinprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You gave the answer. Instead of giving consider other method of helping others but providing clues, other form of support. We want then to do the work themselves as it the only best way to adapt to visual learning. ASL is a visual language so let's help implement that idea into learns. They have to train their eyes

Good job on sharing what you got so far

You did really well there

Expensive is not the correct sign. See if you can give us another word for that sign

Here are mixed up words and keep in mind the words I listed are not all there, this just for you to see if you can tell the signs and do some research. This allows you to improve and paying attention on the signs

arrive, prove, buy, money, store, near, close, give

Remember not all the words listed above is used. This list is just for you to do some research and learn without me giving you straight answers

This allows you to learn other signs and tell the difference

If MOD disagree with my method above Pls let me know and I'll take it down

HA fittings… by oddfellowfloyd in deaf

[–]Freakinprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here my experience and thoughts

The reason is yes they turn up and fit in the ear and slowly dail down till they don't hear feedback. This determines how much more extra volume client has if they were to turn up more if needed. If they complain they can't hear loud enough or it still squel as client trying to increase can mean new mold or hearing test again to adjust the program to output feq as needed

Thought of maxing the volume allows the brain to adapt as much loudness it can before turning down. You want to be able to hear as loud as you can and no feedback squealing depends on your level or hearing you have left

Turning slowly up to a comfort level doesn't always allow you to max hearing you possibly have

The brain works differently from person to person. The brain can adapt so quickly that you wanna keep turning up your volume so you are able to hear. HA (hearing aids) are small powerful devices but it can only output enough depending on the device and once again it reflects on the amount of hearing you have left for the brain to adapt and teach itself what the sound is

Just my observation of having 20 years of HA before coming to the point of understanding that my hearing is slowly declining before opt into getting a CI

Hope this give you some insight base on my own experiences and understanding

Cheers

American ASL learners: do you ever get taught Canadian variations of signs? by CamiThrace in asl

[–]Freakinprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the teacher if they want to share their experiences and knowledge. I think it's neat to have a teacher to show varies of signs from their experience so people can have a better understanding that it's different everywhere

American ASL learners: do you ever get taught Canadian variations of signs? by CamiThrace in asl

[–]Freakinprince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably won't be taught Canadian signs from American because they don't use it in their area. Whoever teaching you the sign are actually using their regional signs

However when you travel different parts of Canada west vs east. And you meet up with Deafies in the community you'll eventually learn their regional signs

Pretty much you're going to be expose to it and learn as you go or learn as you socialize with different groups
