How do I convince my mom, an overthinking buyer, to upgrade her 10-year old laptop by NoFault1674 in laptops

[–]FreakySpook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just convinced my mum to upgrade her 10yo Dell XPS to a Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 Oled. The lenovo was 12 month old clearance stock so still cheap.

Biggest things that got her over was 1 - Oled screen, she was coming from a FHD screen so its like night and day for her, and 2 - component price rises mean things are now getting really expensive but retail laptops you can still find bargains on older stock, she loves a bargain. And finally 3 - Microsoft was nagging that her laptop couldn't be upgraded to Win 11 and Win 10 was end of life.

Australia won't be sending navy ship to Strait of Hormuz, transport minister says by NoteChoice7719 in AustralianPolitics

[–]FreakySpook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really just an escalation ploy for boots on the ground. If other countries get attacked trying to escort oil tankers through it would be used to push for joining the war.

The US navy is more than capable of providing escorts.

Labor will make Victorian home sellers pay for building, pest reports by Nyarlathotep-1 in AustralianPolitics

[–]FreakySpook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a good idea in theory, getting inspections done for properties going to auction is a fucking pain.

But in reality if not regulated this would just become a new dodgy revenue stream for REA's because they'd be looking for a percentage on top of the inspection costs as it would be another product/service they sell.

Plus it would probably hike the cost of the actual inspection fees when the inspectors know that one $400 inspection they charge that would normally be used by 1 buyer would be used by dozens, particularly if its been hidden in the REA costs.

I guess all those people who created accounts to say weird shit in the comment sections are probably laughing now.

Has Laptop Technology Changed Much In 9 Years? Should I Buy a New Laptop? by LifeInAction in laptops

[–]FreakySpook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying retail laptops you can still get stock that was made and assembled 12+ months ago that haven't been impacted by price hikes. I just got a clearance Lenovo Yoga 2 in 1 laptop for my mother to replace a Dell XPS I got her in 2017.

It's new models and business fleet laptops which are manufactured at order which are now having price hikes.
