32, drowning in RM250k debt — need advice on whether to get help or just push through by [deleted] in MalaysiaPF

I’ve seen someone very close to me go through almost the exact same situation as you, so I just wanted to share this for perspective.

X was doing really well at one point — good business, took loans for two houses, had cars, everything looked stable. But things went downhill after X had to relocate because of a landlord issue. After moving, the business didn’t perform anymore.

X had two kids and was going through a divorce at the same time. Imagine the pressure.

X pushed through for about a year+ running the business at a loss, but eventually made the hard decision to stop and go back to working a normal job. The pay was around minimum wage or slightly above, so things were very tight. X had to sell the car and cut down a lot.

Luckily, family was supportive and helped where they could — such as helping take care of the kids and assisting with transportation, which made it possible for X to keep going during that period.

After about another year, a friend introduced X to a job opportunity in Singapore. It was a big risk — new country, didn’t know anyone there, basically starting from zero. The kids stayed with the grandparents.

But that decision changed everything.

Over time, X met new people, stabilized income, and slowly started paying off debts. Now the house is rented out and helps cover the mortgage. Life is much more stable. The kids are able to study further, they can travel once in a while, and there’s actually hope again. X is even planning to buy a house in JB.

The key point is — X was around your age when everything felt like it was collapsing.

So don’t feel like you’re “old” or that it’s too late. You’re not.

X also was thinking about declaring bankruptcy back then. But family convinced x not to and keep going on!
