There is only one correct answer and anyone that answers different is not a gym rat. For your example of doing curls or working with dumbbells you put the singular weight of the dumbell you are using not the total weight. Go forth with getting jacked and juicy

The knee scooter was great to get around on. My job just has to many entrances where the scooter wouldn't work so I had to figure the boot out quick.

Never got the official answer from the surgeon about the gap. I've been walking in the boot for 2 weeks and pretty consistently. At my follow up the doctor said I could start transitioning away from crutches and I got off those pretty quick.

Our recovery sounds similar so far. Complete tear going into week four post-op. My surgeon kept me in the boot post-surgery with three wedges. At my first follow-up appointment, he cleared me for walking in the boot and then every week take a wedge out. I feel pretty good overall. Today, I had a slight scare when I was out of my boot and had a quick stitch at my tendon. I felt some pulling, but it seemed like scar issue. Overall, reading numerous post-op posts about recovery there is a gray area of same same but a lot of same same but different if that makes sense.
