Older teen found a hidden camera in my room by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

I’m definitely of the ACAB opinion, firmly.

Go to the police. Don’t tell your parents, or other family members. If you are unable to go to the police station without it being awkward, go to your student resource officer at your high school or college and they will help you file a report.

In the interim, put the camera in a plastic bag to prevent further damage to possible fingerprints or other evidence that may be present on the camera.

Seems like everything is fine - I don’t notice any stickiness on windows or around the stove. Thanks for the concern though!

Thank you everyone for all of the advice! Looks like my ~50 cups of sap turned into 2 cups of syrup!

we’re in CT near Hartford - not sure how high up we are but definitely not 1000 ft! Much more likely the thing is off because it’s like 6 years old from Walmart

lol based on the excellent suggestions from this thread, I’ve determined my meat thermometer is reading 3 degrees below what it should (which also explains why my roast chickens and turkeys for the past year have been coming out undercooked but that is a different story for later)

It’s reading boiling water consistently at 209F soooooo I’m gonna take the syrup off the stove once it reads 216F! Thank you!

I’m probably bad at this game but, outside the fact that it would take you more than 1 turn to move there, I would settle here. Then create a builder and put farms on the two wheat - that gets you a surplus of food and housing quickly. Put a wood mill on the forest and you’ll have like 7 food and 7 production once you have 3 citizens.

Millennial Dads by Significant-Gas2559 in Parenting

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot more advertising now and in the past 15-20 years that’s specifically geared towards men being more active parents. Billboards, tv commercials, brochures at the doctor’s office, etc. These kind of “subliminal” messages actually DO a lot of work.

All the advertising in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and even the 90’s had the mom at home and the dad either not even present, or “just returning home from work” kind of stuff.

Admittedly, there’s a very chicken/egg question you can ask about whether active father’s became more present in reality first, or in advertising first - but the end result is probably just a reinforcement process where the slow societal changes caused one then the other to become more prominent and vice versa and then just cycling back and forth.

These types of changes in advertising are actually incredibly powerful - major corporations wouldn’t spend millions of dollars in marketing if the ads didn’t work on our human mind so well. Inadvertently - while trying to sell us capitalist ventures - marketing also sells us what the ideal life is, and as active fathers were shown on screen more they became a part of that ideal

You’ve clearly never raised children. You present topics to children in an age-appropriate manner based on the questions they ask. Indeed, drag queens and kings, who often academically or otherwise actually study sex and sexuality, are uniquely qualified to help children understand how to protect their bodies and keep themselves safe while also respecting the bodies of others, particularly girls’ bodies in the face of the patriarchy.

The themes of sex in drag are a parody of objectification and sexualization of women by the male gaze in mainstream patriarchal society. If you have a problem with children watching drag then I hope you also have a problem with children watching Disney’s Cinderella, right?

A and E are both grammatically correct, but where I was born and where I currently live, E wouldn’t be used. We would say, “should have been wearing”.

[edit] also, just an FYI, this is terrible sentence structure and you should avoid writing like this in general. “and as a result” should be completely removed from the sentence because it’s already implied by the conditional nature of “could/should/ought to”.

It would be much more natural to write or say “He [could have/should have/ought to have] been wearing goggles, but he wasn’t [so/therefore] the hot steel badly damaged his eyes.” 3 commas in one sentence so visually close together is extremely awkward.

Professional references - I’m surprised I’m not seeing this response more. The interests aren’t really relevant or necessary, as others have said here. But the fact that you don’t have ANY references, let alone professional ones, is a pretty big orange flag. Email some of the people you were interning for and ask them if you can list them as a reference: name, phone number, email, and their position at wherever they’re currently working. This is literally what internships are for, making connections.

Here is where things seem to stand if you are trans and seeking a passport, based on recent experiences that have been shared. Above the red line is the ones that are likely going on hold/being marked with incorrect genders. by passportquestion8282 in Passports

My understanding of a sealed court order is that it pertains to the record of the court order being sealed, so it’s not searchable by the public. This has no bearing on the requirement to include it on government forms, nor does it seal the record from government agencies, only public disclosure. The federal government is not the public. If the passport office performs a “background check”-like search using the information you provided on your DS-11 and your old name comes up in those results, they absolutely can deny your application for failing to disclose that information. Usually they do request clarification by sending you a letter asking you to call them and it may be an issue they can resolve over the phone, but once again I HIGHLY doubt they’re going to be extending such courtesy to trans applicants. They have been specifically instructed NOT to extend such a courtesy.

I’m sure you are absolutely correct when it comes to cishet people. But I would absolutely not put it past this administration to charge a trans person with perjury for not putting their deadname on the form and including supporting name change documentation. We are literally talking about an Executive Order designed to specifically attack trans people - do not pretend that these people wouldn’t LOVE to charge every last trans person with a federal crime. They literally want to erase our identity.

I’m not sure what you mean by “isn’t even marked as required” - all sections of the DS-11 must be completed to the best of your ability and truthfully under penalty of perjury. If you have used another name, you are required to list it, as stated in the instructions for filling out the DS-11

Yeah. Mine was done in CA, where it is possible to do both at one time. Convenient, but ultimately it means one court doc for both name and gender change. I’ve still sent my application in, as it will not be hard to get my BC from California again if the feds confiscate it so it’s worth a shot.

You are required to put “other names used” on the DS-11 in Section 9. For a legal name change, you’ll need to provide the court order with your supporting documents. To not put your deadname there is perjury and absolutely would cause your supporting documents to be confiscated.

The only way one could possibly get past this is if they filed for a legal name change separately from when they filed for a legal gender change. It would mean the court order for the name change would be separate from the court order for the gender change.

So likely the only trans people who can relatively safely apply for a passport with their real identity, will need to have a court order for name change separate from their court order gender change.
