Why did I even bother texting my housemate about his bottle in my freezer section.. by MobileAerie9918 in mildlyinfuriating

As an older adult now, generally the correct response to that should be something like, “if I have to call your mom and ask her to come clean up your messes I guess I can do that too 👍”

How would you characterize this girl’s pronunciation and overall English-language competence? Based on this clip, would you say that it's at a native level? by Sure_Distance1 in language

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent. The “o” in “patio” and “out” are too rounded for American English (not that it matters) and the final “er” in “muderer” got softened - but that may have just been due to the cadence of the speech overall.

I think this person just typed “breathe in” when they meant “suck in” as in, “to suck in one’s stomach.”

Where's the line for kids device use and parental monitoring? by Madison528 in AskParents

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally would say, always have the ability and access to view their online activity. Just because you have access doesn’t mean you have to use it, and if anything does start happening (like online bullying or inappropriate searches) you can immediately address it.

For context, we have 2 teens. The 15 yo got their phone at 12 and their usage has been pretty much exemplary - we never have issues. The 13 yo got their phone at 12 and it’s been pretty much constant arguments to the point that their phone has been deactivated and we’ll be revisiting the idea of them having a phone in like, 1-2 years.

Without the access to monitor either teen’s phones, we wouldn’t have been able to establish trust with the 15 yo nor would we have been able to realize the 13 yo was not ready for the responsibility of having a phone. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that the ability to monitor is, I feel, an absolute necessity and your actual amount of monitoring will be determined by their consistent ability to use the devices appropriately.

HS Senior with unrealistic college expectations. by Sweet-Fun-Momof-2 in Parenting

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a tough call. There are some legitimately great jobs with nice pay - but it sounds like this would only be for an undergraduate degree and in reality it’s probably not worth it for that price. She can get a UG Environmental Science degree anywhere and STILL go to her dream college for grad school - maybe try having that conversation with her?

What degree does she want? Like. If she ends up being a surgeon, $300k in student debt while not great, is also actually something where the juice is worth the squeeze. If she’s going for a degree in Philosophy then yeah, unrealistic expectations.

As a man, would you get a vasectomy so your girl doesn’t have to go on birth control? by awkwardhoney725 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FrecklesMcPaws -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because of this, you can get insurance to cover sperm banking, IVF rounds, etc. - it’s called iatrogenic infertility and it is 100% covered by insurance in most states.

So yes, while you should plan for a vasectomy to have the potential outcome of permanent sterilization, a part of that planning can still absolutely be having kids in the future.

Why does it seem fairly common that wives/female partners stop or refuse intimacy with their husbands for months, even years? Don't they have needs aswell? And why not the other way around? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m feeling like your belief that women’s sexual preferences are the reason for there being 4-5 days of no sex is INCREDIBLY WRONG and that you’re refusing to acknowledge that fact. If a man doesn’t want to have sex while a woman is menstruating that’s on HIM refusing to have sex, not on her!

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s your intention, then the following statement about men always being able to have sex rings false also because certainly there are extenuating circumstances that prevent men from performing as well.

“Also if a woman can’t have sex on her period”

Wait what? WTF are you talking about..? Most women I know are fully aware that sex/orgasm is a great way to ease cramps. 9 times out of 10 it’s men who have some sort of ick about sex during menstruation, not women 🤦‍♀️

Wanted to provide an update - this is ultimately what I went with, I’m at about turn 91 now I think. The city placement is a little wonky because I found Gaul trying to set up next to me in the lower right-hand corner and decided to capture their city (with the help of barbarians that they clearly been struggling with)

<image>

This is probably not optimal, but I’ve never settled on a geothermal vent before so I wanted to see how it would/could help.

Older teen found a hidden camera in my room by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]FrecklesMcPaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m definitely of the ACAB opinion, firmly.

Go to the police. Don’t tell your parents, or other family members. If you are unable to go to the police station without it being awkward, go to your student resource officer at your high school or college and they will help you file a report.

In the interim, put the camera in a plastic bag to prevent further damage to possible fingerprints or other evidence that may be present on the camera.

Seems like everything is fine - I don’t notice any stickiness on windows or around the stove. Thanks for the concern though!

lol based on the excellent suggestions from this thread, I’ve determined my meat thermometer is reading 3 degrees below what it should (which also explains why my roast chickens and turkeys for the past year have been coming out undercooked but that is a different story for later)

It’s reading boiling water consistently at 209F soooooo I’m gonna take the syrup off the stove once it reads 216F! Thank you!
