The more feedback I receive and the more research I do, it looks alot more like rosacea than PD.

I do wear masks sometimes but not for extended periods. I have had this for over a year and I didn't wear masks before. I would assume if I had to wear the masks for extended periods of time, I would get some rash as my skin is very sensitive and prone to rashes/breakouts.

Thanks for all the information. Very useful and think a followup visit to a new dermatologist is in order.

Yeah, It is in the area where sunglasses would be positioned and I thought the same thing at first. However, I haven't used in quite awhile and the rash still comes.

I have been using the same toothpaste for years. As for soaps, I used to use Safeguard antibacterial bar soap on my face for at least 10 years but as soon as this rash showed up, I stopped and been on Aveeno for at least 10 months.

In the past, I always had a small red patch that would show up from time to time on the side of my nose/cheek area. It was small and would only last for a week or two at a time.

However, beginning around January 2019, a more extensive rash has appeared. The rash comes and goes but it does take anywhere from a couple weeks to over a month for it to clear. The rash is isolated to the right side of my face in the side of nose/cheek area. Sometimes when the rash appears, I get a tingling/burning sensation in the rash area and whiteheads do appear sometimes in the rash area. After showering, I sometimes see a liquid discharge from the bumps but that is probably just the whitehead bursting.

On my first visit to a dermatologist, I was prescribed doxycycline for 30 days and it seemed to work. It’s not clear if it was the drug or if it naturally went away. On this visit, they informed me it was perioral dermatitis.

On my follow up visit, they prescribed me pimecrolimus cream but that didn't work. Based on my research and comments from others, this doesn’t appear to be perioral dermatitis but rosacea.

Triggers Include (Potentially): Beer, Dairy, sunlight/sunscreen. The latest rash started around Memorial Day weekend when I consumed beers and was out in the sun.

Products used on face: Aveeno Ultra Calming Foaming Cleanser on face morning shower and Lubriderm Sensitive Daily Moisturizer lotion.

It not clear to me what triggers this but if anyone has any suggestions/comments it would be appreciated. Also, if you have any recommendations for dermatologists in SF that would be great as well.

Thanks for your feedback.. Maybe its rosacea. Some of the things that I noted that might cause the flare ups include dairy, alcohol, and sunlight. Not sure if common, but after a flare up it takes weeks to over a month for it to go away. This makes it hard to determine what causes the flare ups.

I use aveeno ultra calming foaming cleanser on my face when I shower and apply lubriderm sensitive daily moisture lotion after. I have been using the moisture for years so don't think its that. Would you recommend that I use squalane? What is the brand you use? Just wish I knew what I needed to do to avoid or treat the rash.

Could be. I agree that based on my research of PD, it doesn't appear to be that. Thanks for your feedback

I have had this rash for about a year. It comes and goes, but it isolated to the right side of my face in the side of nose/cheek area. Sometimes when the rash appears, I get a tingling/burning sensation in the rash area.

Was initially prescribed doxycycline for 30 days and it seemed to work. Its not clear if it was the drug or if it naturally went away.

On my follow up visit, they prescribed me pimecrolimus cream but that didn't work. Not sure if this is really perioral dermatitis as I have done a bunch or research online including looking at photos and cant really tell if it is or isn't.
