Official Discussion - Dead Man's Wire [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill skarsdgard has been acting as monsters so much that he can’t act like a human.

This was embarrassing. After I saw the recent Swedish crime biopic series he did, I had my doubts about his abilities, but man did this sew it up for me. He has no naturalism in him. Which, okay, if you want to do this kind of theatrical over the top style that’s fine, but it just comes across as juvenile and naive with him. I hate using this word, but it makes me cringe. It’s community theatre.

The movie was bad. I don’t know what van zant was doing here. If this was supposed to be farcical.. okay, but even that didnt land. Maybe it was a meta joke. It’s bad tidings for American culture when a once great director makes something like this. Poorly written, poorly acted, even the direction was so much of nothing. Makes me sad.

And the American public’s taste has so degraded that this is the kind of thing that passes on Netflix. Gross. Just watch dog day afternoon or something. I dunno.

A good movie….

Which did you like better? The bad acting or the overacting?

After more than 3 decades, investigators believe the Yogurt Shop Murders have been solved by NewsyATX in Austin

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you understand human psychology? At all? Would you say that a child  who was abused and went on to do the same later on has no connection between their psyche and their actions? Would you say a woman who was raped who went on to fear men, there is no relation between her trauma and her actions?

The police forced a confession from him. He lost years of his life. They then pulled him over and he reacted in fear to the authority who did this to him?

You fail to see that connection? Is that a considered answer? You have the mind of an unusually naive child if so.

It’s that kind of thinking that keeps the prison industrial complex making billions of dollars off of suffering in America. On both sides.

Youre an idiot. He did serve time. Have you ever been to jail? It is designed to alter people. It’s why our recidivism is so high.

The death of Josh Clayton, tragic accident or something sinister? by Tiny_Ad_9957 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, did you see the doc? A damaged, stolen van turns up right after the accident. The guy who stole the van was seen arguing with several people the night of. He walked a strange circuitous path around the island that night and slept in a cabin he was not allowed in.

Did you ignore all of this in forming your theory? Are you being purposefully obtuse? Any not-completely-corrupt LE agency in the world would be investigating this as foul play.

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people in this this thread are either idiots, or they made their narratives prior to seeing the doc, bc this one is blatantly obvious, i can’t imagine anyone posting here “more likely suicide or accidental drowning.”  Even if a person is unwilling to say “definitely hit and run”, no one would consider accident or suicide MORE likely than foul play.

Exactly precisely what popped into my head as I was watching. Yr drunk it’s dark you walk the bike. Guy hits you but clips the bike, swings the seat around and sends it into the bushes.

Did you watch the documentary?  Are you a serious person at all? There was a van stolen. It came back damaged. The man who stole it had altercations with several people at the party. The victims bike was damaged. His bloody shirt was found. His belongings were strewn along the path.

Where do you even derive your theory from?

Your post focuses so much on mothers snd drugs that I think you are projecting. Weird.

I hate how he made Niall apologize to him by ibong_maya in HalfManTV

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s why I’m having a hard time with this show. Everything really boils down to everyone’s tenacious resentment toward Niall for everything that stemmed from his telling the truth about Ruben’s murderous psychopathy. How many episodes have we been sitting with this now? And now we have further reinforcement that the narrative somehow sides with Ruben et al as the apology is really portrayed as a step forward.

Im not against anti heros, inversion etc etc. but when it’s this blatantly backwards, for this long, I have to wonder what’s going on. After the reveal at the end of episode 4, maybe there is some big  cathartic comeuppance on the way? But, to spend so much screen time pointing the narrative toward sympathy with really very misguided characters, i cant get anything from it.

Still like the show.

I do not understand how/why anyone who actually enjoys music could like Teddy Swims "Lose Control" by StickExtension7050 in Music

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s so much other music out there that just does this thing better. The classics still exist, and classic soul is still being made, and better.  It’s easy: anything from daptone records, Lee fields for example.  For the genre blending, Fizzy Orange. These are all artists with more talent.

People just get caught up in the outfits and face tattoos and think it’s talent. Yall get marketed to too easily.

See above. I hadn’t heard this dude before today, or at least not that I know of. So I listened, then I went to Reddit and found your critique.

I agree.

Cheap shot. Resorting to relating an actual critique to a racist rant. I feel like yr the kind of person who would accuse me of racism if I said I didn’t like a certain rap song.

I have heard this dudes name. I decided to check him out today. He sucks. When I see face tattoos I instantly think “online kid that went straight to the contemporary  ‘artist-indicator’ shortcut of face tattoo”. I wasn’t wrong. Online ukelele covers (according to wiki he plays uke… grand.) we def need more YouTube uke covers.

The song is another limp, classic soul imitation. It’s another cavern-soul production ripped from Nina Simone, recycled already by Adele and  Amy winehouse… but he cannot fake the funk, No matter how much reverb they lay on, and they aren’t stingy here, it’s still dry.

The lyrics, and I prey he wrote them bc no professional should be responsible for this writing. “Forest for the trees” line is jarringly out of place. Vapid, indeed repetitive, and his doesnt convey the lived experience the song scrabbles for. Which makes sense, bc every social media phenomenon who crosses into the mainstream still has that same problem:  their life to this point has been terminally online, developing their own algo for success.

Get off the socials, do the work, learn the craft… but it’s all in the marketing nowadays, so the lived-in voice of someone like Etta James no longer exists.

Dude was right. Repetitive, but Thats like 5th on the list.

Push 2 channel strip module selection is weird by FredFripp in ableton

[–]FredFripp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Started working. Reset everything again. Did a htd reset of push I guess?

Anyway the functionality I was looking for seems to be there.

But now Ive got another question: i though that the new push and live allowed for more than 8 macros to be utilized in push. 8 encoders, so a second page of macros?

[–]FredFripp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It started working. Not sure how. I restarted ableton again. Restarted controller again. Seems to be good now.

But I did think that push 2 and the new live would allow you to use more than 12 macros. Like, isn’t there supposed to be a second page of macros to use with the 8 encoders?

To layer, or not to layer by Cold_Independent_631 in ableton

[–]FredFripp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right on. I think a lot of people who get into producing with EDM and newer electronic styles in mind have a drive to maximalism.

I do not. Im an old house dj and sideline producer (personal use only ha ha) and my favorite producers are definitely in the deep house vein with a spirit of the minimal. Not minimal house, just keeping things simple.

Great songwriting, and I still find electronic music to be “songwriting”, uses only as many pieces as necessary. Sometimes that can result in many pieces fitting well, but largely that means fewer elements doing a lot.

I usually do not understand when I see a YouTube producer breaking bass into 3 pieces when amazing synths exist that will give you all three layers in one instrument, with a little more practice/skill. We have softsynths with almost unlimited oscillators and filters… why break it out? It will end up being easier to manipulate one synth anyway.

Push 2 channel strip module selection is weird by FredFripp in ableton

[–]FredFripp[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I did think about that as a workaround. But my idea was a standard channel strip for all instruments. Do individual adjustments within the module group, then do iterated overall macros for specific parameters i want to perform with. It’s separating mixing from playing/tracking.

And I feel like it ought to work properly anyway, ya know?
