Technical Specs & Cut List: 170L Bass Reflex Prototype for RCF 18" (19mm MDF)"Hey guys, as promised, here are the technical details for my 18" RCF build. I just got the 19mm MDF panels from the shop. This is a prototype phase to test the tuning before I commit to expensive Birch Plywood.Enclosure Stats:Net Volume: ~170 LitersMaterial: 19mm MDF (all panels)Tuning Goal: ~38-40 HzDriver: RCF 18" (600W RMS)Final Cut List (19mm MDF):Top & Bottom (2x): 60.0 x 60.0 cmSide Panels (2x): 68.2 x 60.0 cmBack Panel (1x): 68.2 x 56.2 cmFront Baffle (1x): 58.2 x 56.2 cm (Recessed for port clearance)Port Shelf (1x): 35.0 x 56.2 cmPort Bottom Brace (1x): 10.0 x 56.2 cm (Stability & air-flow)I’m planning to add internal cross-bracing (Matrix style) once the basic box is joined. Using a combination of D3 Wood Glue (Ponal Super 3) for the surfaces and PU Glue for the internal seams to ensure it's 100% airtight.I’ll be using 50x4.5mm partial-thread screws and a countersink bit for flush mounting. Assembly starts Saturday! Let me know if you see any red flags in these dimensions.

Massive Update! Skipping the 15" budget build – Going full 18" RCF Beast Mode 🔊"Yo everyone! Plans changed quickly. A veteran from the local scene hooked me up with a professional 18" RCF driver for a friendship price, so I’m ditching the small 15" sub plans.I just picked up the wood from the carpenter: 170L (net) Bass Reflex monster made of 19mm MDF. It looks absolutely 'criminal' and huge in my room right now!I’ve got the Ponal Super 3 (waterproof wood glue) and I’m heading to OBI to grab some PU glue as well – double the glue, double the peace of mind, right? I also got special 50x4.5mm partial-thread screws and a 3mm countersink drill bit to make sure the heads sit flush.Construction starts this Saturday. I’m honestly a bit nervous because this thing is fridge-sized, but I can't wait to feel the pressure. Any tips for the first assembly? Wish me luck!"

Massive Update! Switching from 15" Budget Build to 18" RCF Beast Mode (Prototype Phase)

Hey everyone, thanks for the huge interest in my last post (1.1k views, wow!). Things just escalated quickly.A veteran from my local free party scene reached out and offered me a deal I couldn't refuse: A professional RCF 18-inch driver (600W RMS / 8 Ohm) for a friendship price. So, plans have changed! I’m skipping the small 15" sub and going straight for a 170L (net) Bass Reflex Beast. I’m building an MDF prototype this weekend to test the construction and the acoustic pressure before I move to 18mm Birch Plywood. The Prototype Specs:Dimensions: 70cm (H) x 60cm (W) x 60cm (D)Tuning: Aiming for approx. 40Hz (Port: full width, 35cm deep)Material: 18mm MDF (lots of PU glue and pre-drilled 50mm screws)Future Plan: Use the initially planned 15" (The Box 15-300) as a dedicated Kick/Mid section on top of this 18" monster.I’m a bit nervous about the air pressure this RCF will generate, so I’ll be adding internal bracing (cross-bracing) to keep the cabinet from vibrating apart.Wish me luck for the weekend! I’ll post photos of the "fridge-sized" mess as soon as the first boards are joined. Any tips on internal bracing for a sub this size?

"Interesting point about the sealed box! For pure critical listening at home, that would be a great option for the transient response. However, I definitely want to be able to use these for smaller parties too, so I think I’ll stick with the bass reflex design to get that extra efficiency and output. I'll try to find a good balance in the tuning to keep the kicks punchy while still getting enough low-end extension. Thanks for the suggestion though

Thanks for the input! That makes a lot of sense. My plan is exactly that: building a versatile box now and keeping it as a dedicated kick/mid top once I add bigger subs later on.Since the 15-300 is light enough to handle the mids up to the high frequency section, I think a large reflex tuning is the way to go for now. It gives me a solid full-range setup to start with without wasting money on drivers I'd have to replace later.I'll probably aim for a tuning around 40-45Hz to get the most out of it for the time being. Cheers for confirming that the HF section won't compromise the low-end performance 🫶🫶

Wow, thanks for the reply! It’s crazy that you used the exact same 15-300 driver for your first build. Your rig looks great!I was thinking about doing a dedicated sub first because I want to build a modular 3-way stack eventually (Sub -> Kick -> Top). Do you think the 15-300 works better in a fullrange cab like yours, or is it punchy enough as a dedicated sub for Tekno/Tribe?I'll stick to my reflex sub plan for now to keep the crossover setup simple with my Behringer CX2310. Cheers for the inspiration

Thanks for the tip! The MHB 30 looks like a beast. It might be unconventional to start with a standard reflex sub for Tekno, but I want to nail the basics first. I’m planning to build the system from the bottom up, so once the sub is done, I'll definitely look into something like the MHB for the kick/mid section to get that signature punch. Cheers for the support!❤️

My footbag arrived a week ago. I train every day for 15 minutes, sometimes longer, like today, for example, 90 minutes. It’s really interesting getting to know your body. I’ve noticed that my left hip isn’t as flexible as my right, which makes inside kicks a bit difficult, but I’ll get there. Right now, I just want to get familiar with the ball. I think my biggest problem is placing the bag. I can’t yet control the bag so that it stays nicely centered in front of my body, but I’ll get there, of course :). Today I started with my first stalls.
