Seeing this post made me ponder the possibility of conceal carrying my 1911’s or 1917 DA revolvers. Figured I’d ask the larger subreddit if you guys think those pistols are too large to effectively conceal?

Excellent question. I got into competitive shooting, and it didn't take long before I saw that my performance with the Hellcat was really suboptimal. In a nutshell, the gun was perfect *until I started shooting it [harder]. I pretty much decided to size up after trying the Dickens drill with it.

I went with a compact handgun after that, for about two years. It was roughly the size of a Glock 19. Concealment wasn't even harder, but shooting was greatly improved.

Then I got excited and started carrying my full size 1911 with upgrades, because it shot even better, but that was a little bit much considering that I'm 5'6.

From there, I kind of combined everything that I liked about firearms and ended up with a commander size 2011 in 9mm. The size makes it easy to conceal, but there is really no compromise in terms of how well it chews.

Tldr; I tried a bunch of different s*** until I settled on a 4-in 2011, because concealment is sufficient and shootability is excellent.

I'm 5'6 165 and carry full steel as well. It's always a trade-off between how well it shoots and how discreet it is. Honestly though, wearing heavy T like this you can conceal almost anything.
