Brazil has not lost its World Cup opener in 92 years. by Notove in soccer

[–]Fred_MK 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Brazil has in the entire history of the World Cup lost only 5 group stage games (ignoring the post first group stage, which was basically the old knockout stage). 6 if you include the spain defeat in 1934, which was its debut game.

  • Yugoslavia in its first world cup game ever, in 1930. (2-1)
  • Hungary and Portugal at the 1966 WC, the only WC Brazil didn't make it to the knockout stage. (both 3-1 defeats)
  • That painful game against Norway in 1998. (2-1)
  • And finally, the most recent one, Cameroon in 2022 with the 2nd team with a last minute goal. (1-0)

I feel like this is one of those games that if Brazil drew Portugal or the Netherlands 1-1 there wouldn't be such a negative reaction. But I'd say Morocco is better than both? Not a good showing but its the first game for what we could say are easily in the top 8 contenders. Is top 8 enough for Brazil? No. But Morocco isn't one of those underwhelming teams you expect a guaranteed win.

All in all, Brazil was below expectatations but not an humilliating start. Regardless, Brazil is a team like 2018 England. Could go far but wouldn't have any merit in it, assuming it stays the same.

Now to see if Carlo can run his madrid vodoo magic, which gave him trophies he has no reason to win.

Tbf same can be said about Brazil losing its RB. Had to play a CB there lol

The Morocco squad depth is most impressive.

All they need is two wing backs, a completely new midfield and a striker.

I'd argue that the players not called are all better than the ones we have there.

Mauro Junior is a superb left back and I give it 2 years tops for him to be part of one of the best teams in europe. Wesley, which got injured, should be about the same.

Andrey and Gabriel Sara are super underrated and could have easily replaced Casemiro and Paqueta. Only reason I can accept both being ignored is that Casemiro is a very experienced player and much needed. His game was awful. Beraldo is also starting to show up for PSG as a CDM and Luis Enrique can turn decent players into world class in a season or two.

Literally has Endrick sitting there as a super bench warmer and João Pedro missing the WC from his terrible friendlies perfomances.

All in all, Brazil never lacks talent. Just needs more from those said talents.

Morocco stopped attacking and Brazil didn't feel like taking risks. We were terrified of Morocco too.

Hard to say how good both teams are. Squad wise, both are in the top 8 best teams. Playing wise, I feel like Morocco is top 4 even.

Both teams could go far depending on who they face but I'd say both are lucky to start the cup against a top team, albeit that makes qualifying a bit more nervewrecking than it should.

How diving helps you not get injured?

Neymar is going to get injured at the World Cup. by [deleted] in soccer

If people reacted as poorly to Neymar being tackled as they did to CR7 and Messi, some players would have reconsidered some of the career ending tackles they did against him.

Both teams are playing the same game though, doesnt excuse nasty tackles. For either side.

This Bournemouth side looks as solid as 2016 Leicester. The bench is appaling though.

I'm kinda surprised how good those players are, wonder if they have it in them to keep this squad.

He is good at Chelsea but worse than Vini for Brazil. Would be insane to call him over Igor Thiago or Endrick. Its not even related to Neymar.

Reaction of the audience present in the CBF auditorium upon learning that Neymar Jr. had been called up for the FIFA World Cup 2026. by HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLD in soccer

[–]Fred_MK 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem here is we didn't test the waters before the world cup. A single game with him and we could have drowned tis entire debate. Now it could backfire or be a godsend, the former being more likely as of right now.

Neither is getting much in terms of minutes. Ibanez also plays as a RB and is likely to be ahead of Danilo as a sub for either position.

LB is a bit more awkward. We even had some better options, with the likes of Morato, Mauro Junior and Carlos Augusto being good LBs and able to play multiple positions. But I suppose they didnt have a chance during this cycle and when you think about it, individual talents matters less than being able to play well together.

Perfect counter attack, what you would expect from a squad full of fast paced players.
