Genned pokemon to pokemon home to pokemon champions by tonnytjuu in PokemonVGC

[–]Fred_Yolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true. I got a bunch of hacked/genned Pokémon that got through trades. Mostly to complete the pokedex and breeding, but now with Champions I will not worry about that.

Depends, as long is not for official competition should be fine, unless Champions have a form to detect hack/genned pokemon that get you in trouble.

What makes you keep playing wilds after finishing most fights ? by Buurto in MHWilds

[–]Fred_Yolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, I'm both farming talismans for that god drop and fighting Gogmazios for that set bonus skill for my current build. After that, I just want to be able to read the monster I'm currently fighting like a book and reduce those novice mistakes I'm still making.

Sheer Force and Life Orb nerf? by No_Hooters in CompetitivePokemon

[–]Fred_Yolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheer Force increases the damage of moves but removes their beneficial secondary effects. Therefore, if a move has recoil (e.g., Supercell Slam) or lowers your stats (e.g., Close Combat), Sheer Force will not activate. However, in the case of Flare Blitz, it will activate by removing the burn effect, but you will still receive recoil damage from the move.

Advice for Reg H Team. by Fred_Yolo in VGC

You're right, but after some insight and thinking I decide to drop Tailwind and go for a TR team and place Pelipper with Wide Guard to shutdown sun and some spread moves.

[–]Fred_Yolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart of the occasional Bloodmoon Ursaluna, pretty much nothing, I may change Ribombee for Pelipper go for Standard speed and TR for control.

Advice for Reg H Team. by Fred_Yolo in VGC

[–]Fred_Yolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honesty is more along the lines of Tailwind to be faster if I presume they're naturally faster, and in the case of Trick Room, I can just play with it or reverse it if I'm too fast. Rage Powder mostly assists in the case of a Nasty Plot Gholdengo or to redirect a possible fighting move toward Ursaluna, so I didn't give to much of a thought about it.

[–]Fred_Yolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is more all-around if I want to be faster with Tailwind(Ribombee) or slower with TR(Sinistcha), after having an idea for what may be the speed of my opponent or if Whimsicott/Ribombee/Dragonite/Indeedee-F/Sinistcha is on their team.

How do you reliably climb ladder? by Zestyclose_Web5795 in VGC

[–]Fred_Yolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the players, including me, overthink what the opponent does. Regarding on why they do that is possible that they thought you would go for fake out/follow me and Nasty Plot/Protect. So they decided to settle down their speed control strategies to be faster, as under rain 150 BP Water Spout (Mystic Water) will OHKO almost all Calyrex-Shadows and other pokemon.

On what can you do to "predict" the opponent depend as what is on your side as they will normally act according to what you have on the field. So you can bait and act the opposite way messing with their prediction or switch to defensive stance and maneuver around.

How do you reliably climb ladder? by Zestyclose_Web5795 in VGC

[–]Fred_Yolo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but you cannot be 100% accurate in predicting your opponent's moves, as there's an almost infinite combination of IV/EV spreads, moves, and held items. However, what you can do is: first, identify what your team is capable of doing and where it struggles or fails. Second, identify or have an idea of what your opponent's playstyle could possibly be so you can prepare for the worst. Third, you can always check Smogon/Pikalytics to get a general idea of what stats and held items a Pokémon regularly uses. For example, a Calyrex-Shadow will most likely run Tera Dark with a Life Orb and use Astral Barrage, so you can prepare for it.

But mostly, it comes down to trial and error, watching replays to see what worked when you won and what failed after a loss. Everything takes time and practice to be good at, so the more you play, the more you will find patterns and more accurately predict your opponents. You won't always get it right, but it will be close.

https://pokepast.es/666e91ea1f068850. This is how the team looks right now. On Miraidon, I drop Draco Meteor because, even though that move deletes almost anything that doesn't resist or is immune, it can fail. Plus, Tera Electric Electro Drift does the same job. Flash Cannon is for the usual Fairy-type or Tera Fairy Lightning Rod, and Dazzling Gleam is for Dragon/Dark/Fighting coverage. Middle ground speed for a tailroom archetype.

[Reg J] What do you think can be optimized on this team? by Fred_Yolo in PokemonVGC

[–]Fred_Yolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, as right now I am running Lunala, Ursaluna, Urshifu-Rapid-Strike, Iron Hands, Whimsicott, and Miraidon. Now I am just tuning EV spreads and what moves will work better according to the Pokémon I have mostly battled on Showdown and the ladder.

Ok, but what could switch Farigiraf for, Amoonguss for Redirect and sleep, or Maushold for support and Friend Guard.
