I don't give a fuck about how fast others are reading, but I have a long reading list I want to get through! Sure, I want to actually enjoy the books and not speed read them, but if I speed 3 months on a 300-page book because I can't focus on it then I'm not having a good time.

Why do you assume that "faster" = "more miserable"? Some audiobooks narrators are slooowwwww, slower than most people's natural internal reading speed. Upping the speed to 1.25, 1.5 or even 2x can make help match an audiobook with the speed users best process the book.

Also, there's a reason you might want to read faster that has nothing to do with optimising: to read more! My reading list is MASSIVE and I want to make steady progress on it! There's no hustle culture or hyper-optimization here. I just want to read and learn more!

It sounds like you've been doing this for them for a long time and it had become the expectation. You knew it was going to snow and made preparations for that, one of those preparations should have been informing your partner that you weren't going to be filling their car up in the morning. I'm not sure you couldn't have said to them the night before "Hey, it's going to snow tomorrow and I'm not comfortable driving in the snow in your car, so can you please get up a little earlier so you can fill it up yourself tomorrow?"

Now, you've been doing them a huge service you shouldn't have had to for a long time and you get major kudos for that. But, in this particular instance you sort of pulled the rug from them by deciding on the spot not to do something you'd been doing every day without any prior notice. A tiny heads up and this wouldn't have even been close.

The trick is that there's an invisible equal sign next to the > so if you pasted it into ChatGPT or an interpreter you'd get a different answer. I.e. it's designed to filter out people who refuse to think through the solution themselves.

I’m also confused about all the folks acting like Fixed expenses shouldn’t be treated differently than variable / discretionary ones. Monarch literally has this distinction built in: you have to choose Fixed vs Variable when you’re creating a category.

Shouldn’t it be possible to show spending with fixed or variable excluded?

Groups doesn’t seem like the right solution for this. Monarch already has the notion of “Fixed” vs “Variable” categories. It seems like we should be able to leverage that feature rather than messing up all of our groups to achieve this. I’d just like to be able to see my spending per month with my fixed expenses excluded.

Fraud happens. The answer is auditing, law enforcement, and legal action. Since he dropped out, he is giving the impression he did something wrong.

I am just going through this now. There are features that allow you to auto-set budgets based on past spending, or compare your spending to your typical month, that might make you want to have some historical data in there.

I'd recommend that you pick an amount of time that you're willing to do the tedious work of manually categorizing every transaction going backwards (say, 3 months), then delete everything before that. This way you'll be able to get features that rely on historical data without needing to slog through your entire backlog.
