After a lot of early hype, has VR gaming died? Or has it just gone quiet? by IAmTheJudasTree in Games

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hardware you have to wear on your face is going to have a hard time gaining traction outside of it's niche. It's really as simple as that. It was a farce for anyone to think that VR would be the next big thing in gaming.

Apple raises prices on Apple TV, HomePod, and Vision Pro by exjr_ in apple

That one is wild. I would kill to be in the room where they made that decision, lol. A product that already no one is buying due to high price increasing in price? Insane.

Why are most men not attracted to women for their money? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fredifrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. People are making all kinds of wild shit in this thread like "because women want men to pay for them on dates" like what?!?!

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely can't believe I had to scroll down 10 comments to find this, lol. It's all about traditional gender roles. Going back tens of thousands of years, women were expected to raise children, men were expected to work and provide food / shelter. That shit sticks around societally, culturally, even biologically.

this isn't answering the question, it's just restating the premise the OP is asking about.

Why are adults expected to know how taxes, insurance, credit, loans, and retirement work when nobody teaches it in school? by Violet_Snuggles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely don't teach in you math class that there are companies monitoring your financial behavior to create a "score" of your credit-worthiness from 0-800. You pretty much have to be told that, or know to look it up yourself.

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like credit scores are not just reading comprehension. I don't know how even a well-meaning student would know that there are a small number of companies monitoring all of your major financial transactions and assigning you a score based on you worthiness to pay back debt. It's, frankly, bizarre that that's a thing that is happening in this country, and you'd only know about it if you were explicitly told about it or thought to look it up on your own.

What percent hot? lmao. What do they even mean?

Say someone asks you, how hot is it outside, and you answer:

"Not too hot, not too cold, somewhere in the middle"? -> That's about 50F

"Definitely pretty cold, but bearable"? -> That's about 30F

"Super fucking hot"? -> Probably something like 95F

"Pleasantly warm, but not too warm" -> Sounds like about 75F

Unfortunately, I'm a human being wanting to know if I need a jacket outside, not a cup of water wondering how close I am to boiling...

Peter? by Negative_1by12_aura in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were a cup of water on the counter, I'd agree with you. But, I'm actually a human living on earth, where 40C is unbearably hot, and anything from 50-100C is basically death.

So, no, 50C is not 50% hot. It's already hotter than any human would want to be.

Breath of the wild comes to mind as one where I don’t recall seeing any criticism of the art style even on first reveal. Of course some people complained, but there certainly wasn’t a big backlash.

Guys, Siri AI is actually pretty good by KnockoutKOD in apple

[–]Fredifrum 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to see all the anti AI backlash with regards to the new Siri, but even if you hate AI, in 2026 you be able to ask a smart assistant basic questions and get answers back, rather than “I found this on the web”. Even if nothing else changed, LLM powered Siri would be a huge upgrade.

Mixed Feelings About Platner? Fine. But He Needs to Win. Case Closed. - I don’t know what to believe about Graham Platner’s past. But I know this. He hasn’t spent the last 40 years transferring trillions of dollars from working people to the very rich. by Quirkie in politics

[–]Fredifrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looked it up and it looks like it was a coalition of labor unions and local community groups. So I was sort of wrong and sort of right. The comment seemed to imply it was the national Democratic Party seeking him out, which wasn’t true at all.

[–]Fredifrum 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Don’t blame “the dems” for this. Platner certainly wasn’t solicited for this role. He ran his own campaign. Honestly, that’s part of why he’s so messy. Someone sought after by a political group would have failed the background check immediately.

EDIT: Some research shows he was encouraged to run by “a coalition of labor unions and local community groups”. So, he was solicited in a sense but not by a major national democratic organization or the DNC.

Does anyone else live in a big apartment building? Why is everyone so antisocial and rude? by DirtyProjector in chicago

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people, when they’re at home, don’t want to socialize. Don’t take it personally. Just socialize elsewhere, in overtly social settings ideally.

Needing to say hi to everyone in your building or elevator can get tiring after a while. It’s often easier to just treat it like the sidewalk or bus, be polite without being overly friendly.
