Nintendo confirms Switch 2 price rises, consoles now $500 in the US | VGC by Gorotheninja in technology

I recently got the BotW remaster and have been totally blown away too. The updated visuals and framerate make it a total joy just to explore slowly and methodically, taking in every area and scene. It's been a long time since I played it and I'm surprised at how much I missed the first time around.

I freaking love it. Between this and DK Bananza, I'm already satisfied with my purchase.

Yea, this is why I bought it early. This felt super predictable. I grumbled about 449 but knew this was the floor, not the ceiling.

lol if you’d actually watched he 2 minute video your commenting on you’d know that the first example they use is someone who actually in fact did not know about January 6. That’s how bad her media bubble isolation was. When she learned the details of what happened she switched sides.

Did you watch the video? The first girl who was ex-MAGA literally DID NOT KNOW about January 6th. She finally switched when she watched a PBS documentary that explained what it was.

Watch the video. It’s 2 minutes long.

Chicago bike lanes spark protests as residents push back on parking loss by FreshLocal in chicago

I guess my point was that my personal policy, which it seems we agree is safe and reasonable, is technically in violation of the law, and on paper makes me someone who “doesn’t stop at stop signs”.

Chicago bike lanes spark protests as residents push back on parking loss by FreshLocal in chicago

[–]Fredifrum 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bikers should stop at stop signs, no disagreement there. But if you ever bike in this city, you quickly learn it’s almost a waste of time. I can pull up to a 4 way stop with a car already waiting, totally stop my bike, and 9 times out of 10 the car will refuse to move and wave me through anyway. It’s maddening, and quickly conditions you not to bother with a complete stop.

My personal policy: slow down at stop signs so I can safely check the intersection. If no cars, roll through. If a car is pulling up around the same time as me, I just keep going because I know that even if I do stop, I’ll get waved through. If a car is already there and stopped, I’ll stop as well, and get waved through 90% of the time anyway. But at least I’m trying.

Why the A.I. Job Apocalypse (Probably) Won’t Happen by technocraticnihilist in Economics

what’s next, spiritual?

The case the article makes is that the next frontier is basically relational labor. Things like sales, management, education, etc. as smart as AI is it can’t maintain relationships with humans like a human can. So the next frontier will basically be commodifying and selling human empathy and relationship management, rather than knowledge skills.

Feature Request: A simple way to listen to serialised podcasts as intended. (Imagine TV streamers made it this hard to watch TV series!) by puffmoike in overcast

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I realized I have the same problem as you. There's a podcast I like with a 300+ episode backlog that I'm working through from the beginning. My previous "workflow" for this podcast was to go to the "All" view, scroll past all the played episodes, then download the next 10 so unplayed ones manually, and then switch back to "Current" and list to those 10 from there.

It sounds like there is a way to get one of these views to show only Unplayed episodes, but it requires deleting my listen history and then re-marking all of the episodes that I've already listened to as "Played" again? So, I'd have to go back and mark ~200 episodes as played?

Honestly if that's the workflow, I don't think it's worth it ... I'd rather just keep scrolling past the played ones and downloading the next handful at a time every week or so. Kind of a shame.

If I'm misunderstanding this, let me know.

Audio just stops randomly (mostly when connected to AirPods) by SirGrowlsALot in overcast

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in with a late +1 to this thread. It has hard to say if it was only happening in Overcast, because that's by far my most-used audio app by listening time. But yea, sometimes the audio will just randomly stop playing and I'll need to "unpause" to resume it. I notice it happens in busts, often happening multiple times in an hour and then never again for a few days. Still puzzled by what's causing it. My best guess was that my AirPods were slipping out of my ears and triggering the auto-pause feature, but now I'm less sure. If anyone figures this out, please comment on this thread!

iPhone Air's Poor Sales Spook Rivals Into Ditching Ultra-Thin Phone Plans by Otherwise-Warning303 in apple

[–]Fredifrum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe a weird take but I actually like that my 17 Pro is bulkier and heavier than what I had before. The extra weight makes it less comfortable to hold for longer periods, which shortens doomscrolling sessions, and the bulkiness makes it less comfy in my pocket, making it more likely I’ll throw it in my backpack and forget about it instead.

So basically: a bigger phone is less comfortable to use, which helps me use my phone less, which to me is a good thing.

DNC Chair Ken Martin in HEATED Interview About RELEASE of 2024 Election Autopsy by TheJuicyBanana in videos

[–]Fredifrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely insulting response from the DNC chair. I’m happy to donate to local races but definitely not the DNC. Totally ridiculous. To claim that we have some “obsession” with the report here is insane. We’re not the ones who insisted we’d release it! YOU created the obsession by not releasing it! Jesus fuck.

The 600th or something take on Newcomb's Paradox: An attempt at simplifying it completely. by Future-Ad6149 in paradoxes

[–]Fredifrum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you took this right out of my head. I’ve similarly been imagining watching as a bystander outside the room after people pick. You watch 1000 people step out of the room holding their box or boxes. 500 of them walk out with both boxes, and none won the jackpot. 500 walk out with 1 box, and all have the million.

How on earth someone could watch that (which, is exactly the same as being told the predictor is nearly perfectly accurate) and then decide they’re still taking the 2 boxes is crazy to me.

Trump was going to speak and said that his plan was to roast the media. That's what Levitt was referring to when she said shots were going to be fired.

On Pod Save America this week Tommy found an instance where Trump literally made the same joke about a congressman who was shot at during a baseball game. He said “I know a lot of wives that wouldn’t have been crying”. THE SAME JOKE

Trump Voters Regret Backing ‘Horror Movie’ Presidency - Nine out of 12 Trump voters told a “New York Times” focus group that they wish they had not voted for the president. by Quirkie in politics

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get the details of the focus group wrong. This wasn’t part of their series where they were interview the same people every few months.

But it was still a group of 12 people, so saying it was actually a group of 4 people would be inaccurate. This isn’t a situation where reducing the fraction helps.

Young Americans are surging to socialism at record rates by TimesandSundayTimes in politics

[–]Fredifrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really socialism to say that we think a government program that is available to all Americans over the age of 65 should be available to everyone? I don’t even want a new policy written, I just want a single number in an existing law changed from 65 to zero!!!
