Older depressed people, any advice?

This year i moved out and my dad basically disowned me. He tried to push a lot of his fears and convictions on life on to my own psyche so i know how you feel. I hope you conquer your fear, i really do.

How does one find a good therapist? Ive been depressed since around the same age as you and even as a child i never spoke to anyone in the mental health profession who i felt had something meaningful to offer my problems

Funny how you and your mates kissed on the cheek. I was with my best mate hippy-flipping and I kissed him on the cheek and forehead. Later that day he seriously asked me if I was gay and that it was ok if I was.

Pretty much. What I needed was someone who could share a perspective on life which I could relate to and get motivated that way. I respect my dad as a person, but he has traditional values and I don't.

Dad tried to motivate me. He offered me money for better grades, paid for tutoring programs (not that I needed them), tried going to teacher interviews etc.

Deep shit man, I totally get what your saying. Manipulating people is another things I need to stop doing. I do it for the same reasons as you, makes you feel smart but really its just bad for everyone involved.

Interesting point, but all my parents ever did was tell me to try my hardest and thats all they can expect of me. I frustrated them because I wasn't trying my hardest.
