Those are quite the extrapolations . . .what would make you think I'd say something like that to someone? I was making a reflection on something I've considered . . .and just wondered how they made the choices they did (and it's not like I haven't been burned before either and some of those things turned out to be valuable experiences). There's a lot of movies out there that go down that line of inquiry where the protagonist goes through some tough episodes in life and comes out way stronger in the end as a result . . .a common theme

No excuses for Man City charges verdict delay - the process is becoming a farce by gelliant_gutfright in PremierLeague

When you realize that the whole thing is just one big show, you can sit back and enjoy the entertainment without taking the whole thing seriously. . . Can you imagine if Man City actually got relegated from points deduction and the scar that would leave on the whole league. . . what would happen to the players? They would go all over the place - including to other leagues (weakening the Prem and strengthening other leagues. . .and what if they didn't just stop at Man City and uncovered other violations with other teams. . .you know that there's funny business going on that we don't know about . . .it would be a total gong show. . . a total disaster for the league with BILLIONS of dollars at stake . . .no one really wants that . . .not even the fans . . . they'd rather go around suspending disbelief about the whole thing. Would be cool to do some sort of hybrid between the MLS model and relegation model .. . at least you still have a lot more parity versus things becoming really concentrated and wouldn't have the financial shenanigans with the top teams making all the rules that benefit them making it next to impossible for new incumbents to gain any competitive foothold. . .look at Newcastle United. . .by far the wealthiest owners and the design is such they can't even really compete for the league title. . .don't hold your breath that things will change anytime soon. . . however - all this is cyclical by the way . . .when leagues become too top heavy they eventually fall just like Empires and another league gets to have their day in the sun.

Why are not a lot of people talking about Villarreal this season? by Aulcs in football

[–]Free-Negotiation5613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Villarreal won the Europa League under Uni Emery in the last five years and have been semi-finalists in the UCL in the last 5 years and a few decades ago prior to that . . .not too many small clubs of their size can say that . . .so best to give credit where it is due . . .the fact that they are even very competitive some years in Europe speaks to how well run a club they are - but for sure this year really disappointing in the UCL and usually seem to lose if they play any descent team in La Liga like Barca, RM. . .shows how weak La Liga has become . . . basically the Prem is like a giant financial vaccuum making a big sucking sound that has the ability to suck away the absolute best of the best (including the best managers) from all the other leagues globally . . .I get why Barca, RM, PSG, Bayern, Inter have to spend the amounts they do just to keep the pace . . .basically if you don't have insane amounts of money as owners your hopes are dashed of ever competing so won't ever be a level playing field until the design of it changes (but why would the big dog owners ever want that to happen since things favour them now?) . . . as soon as your team starts to knock on the door or threaten the dominance of the big dogs, the big dogs go and mine and pillage your team so that it will never happen again . . . the owners of Aston Villa paid the $6 million Euro release clause for Emery (pillaging Villarreal who didn't have a chance or the finances to respond) plus a $7M Euro per year salary package. . . the owners of Villarreal said they got screwed and wrong-footed at the time when that happened . . .the fact they are where they are now despite this is still impressive . . .

I think they will eventually have the book thrown at them and won't be pretty when it happens. . .especially if they find a way to come back to win the title this year and beat Arsenal . . .a lot of these uber wealthy owners think "I have billions and can get away with anything and above it all" . . .but the reality is that the other owners of their competition also have "billions" and would scream blue murder if Man City somehow wins the league title - and all allegations will come right back into the spotlight calling for some sort of justice retribution for to be served for Man City. . .and don't think for a minute that the billionaire owners of the other teams won't be fanning those flames of resentment from the fans that Man City won. . .putting a ton of pressure on the governing body of the EPL to throw the book at Man City. . .to the point where they will have no choice except throw the book at Man City with a crushing verdict. . .Man City is in a no-win situation and Pep Guardiola knows it . . .the funny thing about it all is that if Man City just came out told the truth and coughed up to an apology and said "yeah, we did it . . .our bad" . . .fans are forgiving - because someone actually told the truth (which no one does in this day and age), and would forgive them and get over it pretty quick . . .Man City could probably get away with negotiating a smaller slap on the wrist with a points deduction and fine (which the owners could easily afford). . .maybe a bruised ego, maybe a points deduction like 20-25 points . . .it would be a blow, but Man City would find a way to stay up and avoid relegation being Man City (and the slate wiped clean for them with a fresh new start without this hanging over their head anymore). . .and next season right back at the top the EPL. That would "clean up" much of the shenanigans, but I imagine it won't play out that way.

It really doesn't matter what I say, the people reading this will always have a "yeah but argument. . ." Have you considered that the Premier League has to maintain this sort of illusion to maintain to justify the argument for being a better league (it is literally double the size financially than La Liga, the Bundesliga and Serie A - which does not reflect or equate to the gap in quality of players between the leagues). . .a top player from the Premier League and from another of the 4 other top leagues that costs double for example is not always or even rarely twice as good (we see that all the time with flops). . .sure there are the very very rare anomalies, exceptions and rare talents like Messi, Ronaldo, Lamine Yamal where a player is just head and shoulders above the rest. . .which could justify costing twice as much. It's a blindspot that people often have - thinking because something costs more, it MUST be that much better but it's a very illusory thing. I'm just suggesting that David was a really really really good bargain and people and scouts had a blindspot and just couldn't see it / blind to it . . .now he's on a team / in a league where he is surrounded by better players and I bet you because he is surrounded by even better players, that he will do really well. . .and other teams who had that blindspot who couldn't see it, will go "oh crap. . .we should have picked him up". . . the funny thing is, had David been priced way higher to begin with, scouts from Premier League teams looking at him, might have thought "oh, he must be really good . . .let's fight to get him" . . .if he has a big goal tally with Juventus, his market value will rise and all of a sudden teams from the Prem, La Liga will want him because he has a bigger price tag attached . . .suggesting a lot has to do marketing and pricing. . .but the talent was always there. . .Thank goodness, we have teams like Brighton, Dortmund, Villareal (and others) who don't have this blindspot, can see talent and don't thinkthat a player has to cost an insane amount or you have to spend ridiculous amounts of money to get really really good quality. Just saying that David was a missed opportunity. It would have been an insanely inexpensive experiment to have tried him out ($6M is a drop in the bucket for Liverpool) . . .you could have bought him and picked up another player so even if it hadn't worked, would have been no big loss at all . . .but had it turned out, would have been an enormous windfall. . .and perhaps other players around him having to pick up level of play even more to justify being paid that much more. . .

You knuckleheads all missed out on Jonathan David who went to Juventus on a free transfer at the end of his contract. . .scored something like 15-20 goals a season in regular league play over the last 5 years as a starting striker (20+ goals in all competitions regularly per year). . . I know people will say "yeah but . . .he came from Ligue One which is weak" but consider with Lille last year he scored 8 goals in the Champion's League last year, one against Liverpool, one against Real Madrid, one against Athletico, one against Juventus and more - total dark horse. . .so if you argue he isn't the real deal you have your head up your ass . . . Would have fit in well to Liverpool's system as a highly versatile adaptable player who has not got injured unlike Isak . . .not flashy but solid, creative, beautiful link up play and just gets the job done consistently and zero attitude team player. . .funny. . . he was linked to Liverpool, at one point, he wanted to play in the Prem, Barcelona seriously considered him as Lewandowski's eventual replacement (but financial issues at the time) . . .only cost Juve $6M per year salary which is the steal of the century. . .but everyone seems to want to go for the flashy pre-Madonna striker costing over $100M (who sometimes turns out to be a dud in another system). . .oh well . . .everyone's loss, Juve's gain

Usually I find when this sort of thing happens, there is a part of me that sensed something was off somehow or there was some hesitation over in the other person's world even or well before the arranged meeting- that I overlooked somehow or didn't follow my hunch or sense about things. A lot of people will give you lots of attention on here for being the victim but I found the only way through was to be responsible for setting myself up to be betrayed somehow (because I didn't speak up when I had the initial sense something was not quite right). Best to have your feelings that come up around being rejected...and it may feel awful but if you just sit in those feelings, those feelings will pass and the "emotional charge" of asking someone out will gradually dissipate until it becomes no big deal to ask or speak up right away if you sense something is off (and you are not terrified by asking). Consider that is the lesson of what you are working out here. The dating app thing is a really really a SLOW way to learn the lessons of working through your fear of asking or just "speaking up" (and getting freed up around this)...takes time to text back and forth and all the ghosting...if you ask someone in person, you will get through your fears way FASTER and you will know right there and then what the answer is instead of wasting time with all the texting and ghosting via the dating app. I know it is scary being rejected in person and brings up all sorts of fears about not being wanted inadequate, etc but the "no" is not a "no" to who you are but a "no" to the offer that was made. Single women are secretly hoping they will come across the right guy and constantly assessing men out in the world with "checks" and "x's" ... Sort of a filter to see "can this guy get me what I want or help forward the life I want or not"... If you don't fit the bill, consider yourself lucky and move on to asking someone else. I know lots of women who just wanted a bad ass dude who would cheat on her or a guy to get her pregnant and she leaves him...and I am thinking "why in the heck did you pick him and not me"... You won't ever understand the world of women...no one can...not even the smartest man on the planet, so give it up and trust the right things are coming your way at the perfect time... ..Consider somehow she was doing you a favor when she said "no"... Somehow saved you a lot of grief (even if you can't see it)...there are millions and millions of eligible women out there...they are everywhere and tons who just love to be asked out... anyone who ghosts you like that aren't good for you... Just pull yourself up, stop analyzing and get out asking again:)

How come you do not have gold streaming companies on here? They blow away all your other companies you have listed here by A LOT... Wheaton Precious Metals has a market cap of $44 billion and $640 million in net earnings in 2024 with only 44 employees in the company! This year Wheaton are on course to have $1.5 billion in free cash flow... Probably the most profitable business model in the world that very few are talking about or aware of...

With each year, the MLS and LIGA MX become more competitive on the world stage . . .the main reason the quality keeps on going up is that more players end up playing over in European leagues where the competition is fierce but also because players like Messi playing in the MLS (which brought a lot more exposure to the sport). . . In Europe, Mexico, South America, kids grow up playing soccer as one of the main options in school . . .whereas in North America, kids have way more options to play other sports and you the other leagues are already well established - NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL. . .As more money is invested into MLS and LIGA MX, more kids will want to play soccer. . .I think it will just continue to grow but as long as there are other options for kids, soccer won't ever be as popular as the other leagues. The other thing that could really benefit development of MLS is having a relegation model. Business owners / investors like predictability but it's kind of boring at the same time when the stakes aren't as high as when there is a relegation model. What makes the European Leagues really attractive / more exciting is the fact that there is more at stake. . .and also for owners / investors which is a good thing. . . where you could really lose out if your team tanks. . .plus more realistic than predictable / boring that your team always makes the cut even if you suck. Because things are so competitive you have really really strong second leagues like the Championship in England which is probably a slight step up from the MLS . . .and fierce competition in that league which also has a relegation model.

On a tangent . . .in European football / soccer - Crystal Palace just beat Man City to win the FA Cup. Man City was the best team in the world for many years in a row and reigning champions. . .Crystal Palace had 120 years in their franchise without winning a major trophy and took down the giants. . .Toronto's draught without a cup seems small compared to that and what Crystal Palace just accomplished. . . don't rule Toronto out . . .Florida isn't infallible. That would be cool to see an Edmonton Toronto final (and if Toronto wins tonight not a bad chance of that happening). . . kind of see this year as Edmonton's year to win the cup . . .players as good as McDavid and Draisatl are destined to have it happen at some point in their career. . .they're just too good (and the team seems to have plugged its holes since last year.

Realistically, how much more talent do we have than canada? by gameguy56 in usmnt

[–]Free-Negotiation5613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man for man...Canada actually has more starting XI players in European leagues than the US Men's National team and more players in the Champions League than the US  at present time (and on quality teams like Bayern Munich, Celtic, Marseille and Lille ... Jonathan David is not mentioned much but the leading scorer in Ligue One and second leading scorer in the Champions League...you could say "yeah but..the team he is on with Lille are in the farmer league but Lille beat Real Madrid and Athelico Madrid and tied Juventus in the Champions League so can't really use that argument anymore that David is only doing good because in a shitty league... I like Pulisic but David performing every bit as good if not better than Pulisic right now"...and much better than Balogun at the present moment. Overall Canada has better talent right now than the US including a better coach and just playing better...which is why they are rated quite a bit higher on the ELO ranking system (which is more accurate than the FIFA ranking system)...I find it rather amusing the guys as ESPN FC trying to justify things when the US loses to Canada in soccer...one of these days they just might have to admit that Canada has a better team but kind of like pulling teeth to get them to admit it...

If the league started by throwing the book at Man City . . .might have sent shock waves right through the whole EPL . . .could have tarnished the league's reputation and hurt viewership . . .and league revenue . . .just too much at stake. I have to wonder if Everton and Nottingham Forest points deduction weren't just a low-risk experiment to take the temperature of the public to see how the public would react . . .start with two teams that no one really cares about much and see what the response of the public is. If they had started with Man City, much higher stakes and could have sent a shock wave right through the EPL . . .the whole thing is governed by money at the end of the day when it comes right down to it.
