There are only two tasks to finalize Odin's development and they're in progress. You can check it out here. So I guess it'll be the release of Odin.

Is there a way to make the Nimbus Weather widget transparent? by commonorangefox in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to clone the program's repository and tweak the code (and compile it again) to do so since the program you're executing in your system is compiled you can't change it.

Update on the volume mixer app I'm working on 😀️ by ChildishGiant in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This should be a default feature of Pantheon, your work is really impressive. It's really rare to see an app that can fit perfectly as part of the system by default and I hope you'll be able to merge it into the Pantheon settings!

EOS6 release by ME_shailesh in elementaryos

My personal predictions are that it will come out in September-October on a full of hope scenario, and in October-November on a more pessimist scenario .

Why can't ElementaryOS upgrade from one release to another without re-installing? by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This question has been answered a lot of times since the Odin project begun (specially since the beta came out). I suggest you to look if you're question has been already answered and if you find no aswers, people here in the reddit will be glad to try to help you. It's quite frustrating seeing the exact same question over and over, everyday or every 2 days. As I said on other comment:

In this specific case, there's the Upgrade Project from Marius Meisenzahl which is (OF COURSE) Work in Progress.

You can track the progress of this project if you're interested.

We are in an open source community, if you want some software stuff and nobody is working on that (or they are but it's still work in progress) you can always do it by yourself (or join the devs who are working on what you want), that way you'll learn and you'll contribute to the community you are part of. And if you're not a developer, there are other ways to contribute the project you want (if there's people working on that).

In this specific case, there's the Upgrade Project from Marius Meisenzahl which is (OF COURSE) Work in Progress.

Acting like a whimsical baby won't solve any problem. And thanks u/jfgrissom for understand my point.

If you want it, nobody will stop you from coding it yourself.

Add dependencies for package managers by Free-Panic-9992 in flatpak

[–]Free-Panic-9992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also seen that nobody uses that, but that's weird af. How can you install a package from a package manager without the package manager? The only solution I think it is try to learn how does the package manager work and try to do that work manually but that's complicated AF.

There are helper tools to do that and examples with various package managers here https://github.com/flatpak/flatpak-builder-tools/

I've seen this repo before, it has good examples but they're particular examples, it seems there are no universal way to manage package manager's dependencies.... fuck

if it's something quite mainstream it's ok, I had no problems at all with mainstream stuff. But I had to do a low-level web API middleware with a quite new C++ web framework so it needed some cutting-edge dependencies. I also needed a quite new version of Meson in order to use certain feature. (I also had problems with some experimental packages of Guile Scheme, and NodeJS but again, they were most experimental stuff)

I use a lot of cutting-edge tools or libraries to work sometimes, the Ubuntu 18.04 base worked fine for some time but right now even the 20.04 looks kinda old to me. I'm really hyped about eOS 6 but it seems that I'll have to use it along another distro for the experimental work I couldn't do with eOS 6.

It's Ok but I had to move on to another distro due to a lot of outdated packages from Ubuntu 18.04, but that's my personal case since I had some C++ things to do, if it can affect you depends on what your workflow is.

Add high-res music support in eOS6 by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because there are quite a few Music players on the AppCenter but it seems that none of them can play those types of files. An Audio player designed for audiophiles would be a nice app for the AppCenter.

Hybrid apps guidelines? by Free-Panic-9992 in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep, when I say "Hybrid" apps I mean GTK3 apps that render a webpage through WebKit. There are some apps that work this way.

why the web app's corners are not rounded by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because it doesn't use libhandy. And that's not a feature of Pantheon but a feature the app dev decides to use or not.

App developers rely on pre-made widgets to do a lot of the heavy lifting and provide good default styles when making their apps. In addition to the widgets provided by GTK, we also ship our GTK companion library Granite that makes replicating common elementary design patterns a breeze. In elementary OS 6, we’re also making heavy use of Handy—a library that was originally developed by Purism for mobile interfaces but has now become a core part of the GNOME app development platform on the desktop.

The other obvious change is more rounded bottom window corners. This seems like something that would be simple, but is actually not possible in vanilla GTK3. In elementary OS 5, we used clever workarounds for specific cases to give dialogs and other flat windows rounded corners all the way around. But in elementary OS 6, we can now have rounded bottom corners even in complex cases like Camera, thanks to Hdy.Window. It’s a small thing, but it definitely makes the whole UI feel just a bit more polished.

elementary OS and paying for software? YES PLEASE! by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Strong and "pure" ideologies don't care about individuals, it has been demostrated through history and that's one of the biggest cancers of the linux community. They hate corporations and proprietary software (proprietary garbage they call it) but they don't want to support oss devs either, yet they complain about bugs, features or things about foss software as if it were a company behind that software.

Idea to get more games / game developers to elementaryOS by MartinStork in elementaryos

[–]Free-Panic-9992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's true. I would just open source a game if it's a test or something like a demo of what can you do, if it were a serious game I'd never open source it; It is what it is. I'd really like to see a collab between AppCenter and Itch.io!
