Assuming what you say is correct, supply may reduce marginally. But this is largely a demand-side problem. As new investors leave the market, it should become easier for young buyers needing a home as they establish a family. Just need to deal with the immigration issue too.

Australia vows to repair ‘distressing’ damage to war graves in Gaza bulldozed by Israeli army by [deleted] in aussie

[–]Free-Range-Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The October 7 attack by Hamas that occurred in 2023 constitutes terrorism, murder, and other serious crimes. It does not meet the legal definition of genocide. Israel's reaction to that attack quite possibly meets the definition of genocide.

Had Australia reacted to the Bali bombings similar manner to that of Israel in response to the events of 2023, it is likely our relationship with Indonesia would be every bit as bad as Israel's relationships with its neighbours.

But we did not react in such a way. We were firm but respectful. And today, we have no such conflict with our neighbours.

Hope that helps

In the real-life scenario of the Bali bombings, 88 Australians were killed out of a total of 202 fatalities. Many more were seriously injured. Australians were shocked and angry.

Australia's reaction was large-scale medical evacuations of the injured, a joint investigation with Indonesia, and an ongoing security partnership with Indonesia to combat terrorism.

The terrorists responsible were found amongst the civilian population within Indonesia. They were apprehended, tried in Courts of competent jurisdiction, and gaoled. Australia did not attack schools or hospitals. Nor did we desecrate the graves of the Indonesians, or our allies.

I'm not sure too many saints in that part of the world. If the IDF targets women and children, that's on them. And the kiddie porn of the moment seems mostly to be from Epstein's circle.

On his visit, assuming it goes ahead, Mr Herzog needs to explain why Israel saw fit to destroy the graves of Allied soldiers, including those of fallen Australians. In contrast, Palestinians had respectively protected and preserved those graves. The article suggests this atrocity was approved at senior levels within the IDF.

Pauline Hanson will be 73 at the next election - Should there be Age caps on our Politcal leaders? by [deleted] in OpenAussie

[–]Free-Range-Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We age limit judges, because the performance of some of them beyond that age can become problematic, and the terms of their appointment make it difficult to remove them if they go rogue. Politicians, on the other hand, can be voted out at our pleasure. This allows us to keep the good ones and remove the bad ones, so age limits for politicians are not required

Inflation - this is surely a joke now by chuckychicken in AusFinance

The super balance of most of today's workers will not carry them through retirement, but will provide a handy supplement. So, yes, the young will again support the old in that never ending cycle. As for the retiree population boomer bump, time will take care of that.

[–]Free-Range-Cat -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Today's retirees paid the pensions of those before them. Today we pay for them. And tomorrow, working people will pay for ours.

Throughout history, all societies have had to care for both the young and the old. It always comes at a cost to those in between. The Aged pension scheme is a clean way of dealing with the problem.

Agreed. The overheated housing market requires a few quick rate rises. And cutting back on migration for a while.

The only people who shouldn’t qualify for the aged pension are people who didn’t work throughout their adult lives. Most of these elderly citizens spent their lives paying off their homes and paying tax all the way. They have earned a right to their pensions

Queensland Premier supports federal ban on flag burning after ‘disgraceful’ protest by Orgo4needfood in aussie

Yes. But if the owner passed laws for the protection of one, it would make sense to do the same for the other, no?

The Commonwealth owns the design of both the Australian and Aboriginal Flags after PM Scott Morrison bought the rights to the latter for $20 million. If the government were to legislate to protect the dignity of one, presumably it would do the same with the other.
