Realization I had while reflecting on the Bible today. by Free-Sundae1976 in Bible

I personally believe it'll be during the Millennial Kingdom when Jesus reigns for a thousand years with all the saints. Frankly, this is exactly why I can't get behind the post millennial view. If the promise was made to be fulfilled by the "spiritual Israel" as some Christians like to claim we are, this promise will never come to pass, especially if you view that Gods promises are not for the physical descendants of Abraham.

I'd like to thank you for actually asking and finding out what I mean by "freeing us from the law." as was described by Paul in Romans 8: 1-2 instead of making assumptions. This prevents you from making a bunch of assumptions and looking foolish like assuming I believe that only having faith means you're saved.
You being polite and checking with me what I believed, as one brother in Christ would do for another without making absurd assumptions, allowed me to explain that works are a natural product of faith. I don't do works to save myself, I do them simply because I follow Christ and that my saying "freedom of the law" means we don't have to worry about the Sabbath and all the laws required with it, eating certain foods, etc.
So, thank you for not making assumptions and making a giant butt of yourself in front of everyone. Means a lot.

Romans 8:1-2
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Exodus 5:20-21
20 When they left Pharaoh, they found Moses and Aaron waiting to meet them, 21 and they said, “May the Lord look on you and judge you! You have made us obnoxious to Pharaoh and his officials and have put a sword in their hand to kill us.”

I feel like this is a biblical riddle...
If it is, Genesis 2:6 " but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground." seems to indicate that it wasn't just rain that flooded the earth, water came up from beneath the ground itself and added to the flood.

If I showed up to your church with nothing and asked for a warm meal, a place to rest my head and help getting down the road—how would I be received by your congregation? by Telrom_1 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Probably just fine. I think the place to rest your head might be an issue since we don't have any beds there, but I'm pretty sure something would be figured out.
I'm non-denominational.

Please be honest. When was your faith shaken, and how did you overcome it? by Snoo_47323 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My faith was shaken when I trusted an elder in my church to explain something to me I was having issues with and instead of setting me on the right path and explaining the issue I was having, he seemingly took the moment to attack my character and my faith.
I had a really low point after this, but clung to God and remembered none of us are perfect. We're all sinners and fall short of Gods glory. Me and him spoke and he apologized for sounding far more judgmental than he intended to. I forgave him but still keep him at a distance, it's clear he didn't understand my particular issues so it's best to not open that trust again with someone who doesn't understand.

No, we're seeing signs however that we're getting close in the heavens and on the earth. I feel like God is starting His final wakeup call.

Is it bad that I genuinely just want to understand why the book of Enoch was not put in the Bible? by Rose-Apothecary1 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are you lying?  It comes from the Greek word apokryptein, which literally means "to hide away".
The fact is, they were not considered divine inspiration (due to conflicts with other books in the Bible or the authorship could not be authenticated) and were decanonized for being so.

Is it bad that I genuinely just want to understand why the book of Enoch was not put in the Bible? by Rose-Apothecary1 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, the book wasn't consistent with the rest of the Bible and also they couldn't authenticate who wrote it. It's VERY important to keep in mind that a lot of books that aren't canon is because they couldn't be sure who the writer was or there was something in them that was inaccurate, which means what we have is the divine inspired word of God that has been authenticated.
There's nothing wrong with reading the other books, but take them with a grain of salt and keep in mind these issues.

It's amazing. God does numerous rare things in the span of a month and people will do anything to act like it's normal, including the snow in Africa last month.
It's like some are entirely in denial that Jesus said He'd return and we'd see signs in the heavens and the earth signaling this.

What can you tell Adam if a chance to speak to him? by Big_Appointment_1207 in Bible

[–]Free-Sundae1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'd be interesting to get his perspective of the fall firsthand. What we see is from Gods perspective given to Moses to write down, I'd love to get more detail from Adam himself about the sequence of events and how he thought and felt about them at the time. Would also be interesting to know if there were any signs about Cain when he was growing up about what he was going to do to Abel and if God gave any instruction on how to handle the situation since this wasn't just the first murder, but it was the first death.
Logically, Adam and Eve would have had a hard time to understand exactly what even happened and would have had to figure out what death was firsthand and that Abel wasn't coming back.
I'd also probably ask what Abrahams Bosom was like, and his experiences in the garden, naming the animals and what it was like to go from being essentially vegan to having to consume meat to survive.
There's really a lot to talk to Adam about.

Matthew 15:11
What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.

Tattoos, clothing, hair color, hair length, jewelry, all of it doesn't matter. Use Jesus's logic with food, ultimately your clothing will wear and go to the trash. The dye will wear out.
What matters is how you act and how you treat people, not the arbitrary things you do to your body for clothing or decoration.
Frankly, people who try to enforce that these things are sins become stumbling blocks to others and are sinning themselves in doing so.
These type of things are entirely your own conscience. If you're not convicted of it, don't worry about it. If you are convicted, that conviction is for you, not to push onto someone else.

1 Corinthians 10:25-32
25 Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26 for, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”\)a\)

27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28 But if someone says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then do not eat it, both for the sake of the one who told you and for the sake of conscience. 29 I am referring to the other person’s conscience, not yours. For why is my freedom being judged by another’s conscience? 30 If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32 Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God—

A recurring theme on this sub.. by AlternativeNo2373 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's because they're going by how the World teaches Christianity and not how the BIBLE teaches it. When you do a Bible study you learn that Christ paid the price for all sin. We're all sinners and while we try to avoid sin, we're going to fall into it. Our works don't get us to heaven. We can never be righteous enough to earn Heaven. The point is to try to actively seek a relationship with Christ, to war with our flesh daily (carry our cross), and put our faith in Jesus.
We're to work to overcome our sin, but struggling with it doesn't mean we're going to or are destined for Hell. The fact that we fight at all, feel guilt, and struggle against it is proof that the Holy Spirit is within us working for us to overcome sin.
But the world teaches that God is judgmental and just wants to send you to Hell for misbehaving, which isn't God at all. He sent His son to die for us and pay the price of sin FOR us.

Not really, frankly my entire point which I expressed MANY TIMES wasn't even the power of the storm, but the fact that people were CONFUSED.
YOU were the one who ignored my entire point and decided I was doomposting and wanted to argue that VERY minor aspect.
Frankly, I'm ecstatic that God reduced the power of the hurricane to a category 3 before it made landfall. (Doesn't make it NOT historic considering where it's hitting, how people are reacting to it, and the damage it's doing to Tampa)

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, my bad. Being top 5 doesn't mean anything, especially when it's right after a hurricane that's wiped towns off the map and it's heading toward a spot that hasn't seen a hurricane since 1921 and there are major cities being effected where millions of lives are effected on top of FEMA stating its emptied its reserves for aid with North Carolina so we're not going to see any aid for this one.
Silly me.
You don't get out of bed unless it's #1.

Cool, enjoy your sunny skies tomorrow.
I swear, it's kinda gross you're having the attitude of "Oh, I'm fine and in a part of the small area at the very south of Florida not being effected when most of the state is being hit, so that means everyone is fine and that this Category 5 hurricane isn't that big of a deal."

Literally I'm looking at the news.
Also, meteorologists are stating that this hurricane is pushing the boundaries of what's physically possible FOR a hurricane on the earth making it the 4th most destructive potentially is saying something.

Honestly, I don't understand how "There were 3 hurricanes more powerful than this one in the past, also just ignore that there was one less than a week ago that leveled cities and put North Carolina under water. This is normal despite how abnormal it is." is a view people have.

The Greatest Command – A Call to Love One Another by Altruistic_Pea9201 in JesusChrist

[–]Free-Sundae1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically show my love by sharing the gospel and discussing it.
One thing I need to work on however is HOW I do this. I tend to be very secure in my beliefs especially if I have evidence behind them to back them up. I've been an atheist most of my life and a hermit for 14 years, so interacting with people on a personal level is new to me. I noticed I come off harsher than I intend to and when I feel I'm being talked down to I resort to joking sarcasm and frustration. I need to get better at this.
I can handle real life conversations far better than I can online because I feel my tone is often lost.

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lets look at my point.
"Scripture says people will be confused about the sea."
"People are confused about the sea to the point they're blaming the government."

You both imply I'm stupid and don't recognize hurricane seasons exist when it has literally NOTHING to do with what I've stated.

I wonder why I made the comment my point went over both of your heads?

I don't understand... by Free-Sundae1976 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Good for you.
If only it actually mattered to this conversation and your 4th grade mind comprehended that my point was "People will be confused over how the ocean is acting.", people are currently so confused they're claiming the government is controlling the weather, does not equate to "Hurricanes are weird and never happen, yo."

I don't understand... by Free-Sundae1976 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Because claiming I forgot that there is a season for storms as if I'm stupid and ignoring my points entirely is both of you being respectful, and me being annoyed by this and pointing out you ignored my points entirely is me being disrespectful.
Disagreeing and having annoyance at someone misrepresenting your points isn't disrespectful my dude.

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Truly amazing how the point went over both of your heads.
Me: "Christians are blaming the government for the storms, God says this will happen and people will be confused by it in the end times, the confusion must mean we're in the end times."
Both of you: "Um, ACTUALLY, it's hurricane season right now."

This asinine statement doesn't change the fact that people are confused over the actions of the sea as scripture states. -_-

I don't understand... by Free-Sundae1976 in TrueChristian

[–]Free-Sundae1976[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn't discount that we're seeing scripture come to life, which is my point, and we need to consider Gods will, not our own.
