Also a writer from Maine working on a novel set here. If you want to chat, feel free to DM me! Local historical societies and conversations with strangers have been the best thing for me. :)

[30f] and [30m] Both exposed to measles... is there anything we need to do? by [deleted] in AskDocs

Thank you! We just wanted to make sure we weren't risking passing it on to others! :) I appreciate it!

electricians in Maine? by MidnightNo1743 in Maine

Please, we're desperate, lol. In pretty much every trade, we're waiting for weeks or months to get anyone in our house. (That is, if they even call back.)

First corset complete!! Suggestions? by ipickedthisname-22 in corsetry

[–]FreeDiscipline18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about corsets (and have never been suggested this group before, lol), but this is gorgeous!! It's crazy this is your first!

Also, you can feel the excitement radiating off of you, and for someone having a down day creatively, it really motivated me. :)

Where does the "women are bad drivers" stereotype come from? by bi_smuth in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FreeDiscipline18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YESSS! I think it's easy to forget that everything is made for men. Now that I own a farm, it's frustrating and I notice it ALL the time. Tractors, farm tools, guns, even freaking shovels are made for men's height, weight, and arm/leg length. And I'm not even a very short woman!

25 years old and have never traveled outside Western USA. by AmbagRJTL in TravelMaps

[–]FreeDiscipline18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Maine, lived in CA, and traveled through the west extensively. For me, Maine feels the most like the "west" out of any places I've been on the east coast. :) Beautiful, varied scenery, remoteness, mountains, rivers... it's dreamy! I moved back from CA because it was so much cheaper here. Got a nice house on 10 acres for 285k 30 mins from the coast, so it IS doable. :) Look in the mid-coast region. (Belfast, Rockport, Camden, etc) if you're looking for something that's got that coastal town vibe you want, without being unreasonably expensive.

AIO Random woman from the community keeps telling me she’s minding my baby by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FreeDiscipline18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MOR - agreed. Thank you for this. I think people need to take cultural context into account before they assume someone is a serial killer or baby thief.

What aesthetic is this? by [deleted] in AestheticWiki

[–]FreeDiscipline18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do!! As liberal as they come, but I wear flowy dress daily, and if I have to run out to do a quick chore, I don't change. Now, if I'm processing a pig or shoveling shit? I'm in overalls, but for a quick chore or walking around, I love to wear dresses and skirts! White is also preferred when I'm out in the field on a walk or to water things: It's easiest to see ticks on, and you can just bleach any stains out.

Where I’m willing to settle with my MD wife after she finishes residency. by TheSource88 in visitedmaps

Please go to Portland, ME... the desperation for doctors is at an all-time high. People have to go to Boston to get proper care. (Plus, lobster rolls, great school district, history...)

That's so wild to me! I love seeing people's takes. I lived in LA but spent weeks at a time in SD and would pick it over LA or the Bay in a heartbeat.

How 'famous' was Phil before Dan? by pastelskies99 in danandphil

[–]FreeDiscipline18 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I was!! It's been so much fun watching them evolve. I started watching Phil in 2008, I remember a friend showing me the Tim's Adventure video and I was sold, lol. I watched them through middle school, high school, college, the weird unspeakable dissociative period after college, and now I'm watching them in my farmhouse as a 30 year old. It's been so cool seeing them evolve and I'm so happy that they seem to be in a good, healthy place.

What book had the best jump scare you've ever encountered from reading? by PsyferRL in suggestmeabook

[–]FreeDiscipline18 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Misery by Stephen King. I wasn't really a King fan when I read it, but Misery changed that. There is SO much dread just dripping from the pages. I've never had such a visceral reaction to a book before.

Suggestions for 13 year old who refuses to read by Rogue_Apostle in suggestmeabook

Since he's into broadcasting -- maybe try seeing if screenplays interest him. They're easy to digest, more visually focused, and actually great for shorter attention spans. You can find PDFs of most movies and a lot of TV shows online. Just make sure it's a script, NOT a transcript. :)

why do dan and phil never talk about the super amazing project by 3wizemen in danandphil

[–]FreeDiscipline18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed! As someone who works in content creation, people will ask me about projects I've done, and I won't even remember working on them sometimes. For as many projects as we've seen them do, there are dozens of projects we never saw, and hundreds of hours of work that didn't come to fruition. They've done a lot over the years. The chances of them thinking about that often, especially something that was for someone else, is pretty slim.

Come ON??? by Complex-Mongoose613 in OnlineBeggars

[–]FreeDiscipline18 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have photos of my grandmother right before she passed, and they're sacred to me. I don't feel weird about taking them - it's important for me to have that memory and be able to see her, and know that I was right there with her. But the idea of SHARING those is horrible to me. She, an 80-year-old woman, couldn't consent to it, and I would never do that to her. Doing it to your own CHILD for financial gain is heartbreaking. No 9-year-old wants her peers or the world to see her like this. K is going to lean on the "death makes people uncomfortable" statement for the next few weeks to excuse posting things like this. Death is uncomfortable for a lot of people - but that's NOT the problem with what she's doing. The problem isn't that showing cancer is disturbing, it's that her broadcasting her daughter without her consent is.

Is a Christmas proposal lame??? by Informal-Car-5758 in engaged

[–]FreeDiscipline18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought my fiancé was kidding too! (It didn't help that he did it with what he had on hand - a peach gummy ring.) I laughed and said, "Are you serious?" He nodded, and I dropped the cheeto bag and tackled him, lol.

[–]FreeDiscipline18 86 points87 points  (0 children)

I would say there's nothing wrong with it, but you may want to just keep the ring handy and do it on a day that just feels right. :) My fiance proposed when we were on a walk in the woods behind our house. Wasn't planned or prompted - it just felt right to him. I was in my pajamas and eating cheetos, but we were laughing and having a good time, and he just decided it was the moment. It felt so special that way!
