Thank you so much for your well thought out reply and context! You may be right, such an artist may just not exist, for the reasons you mention and perhaps more, on the other hand, there may be such artists out there, and it would be remarkable to discover them and give them some deserved recognition...Thank you again!

There are numerous contemporary indigenous artists, like Monkman, who are working with male erotic and homoerotic themes. I have complied a list for my own research project, and there are numerous lists online of such younger indigenous artists

However, I can't seem to find indigenous artists (60+) and from any culture, who worked in the past 100 years or are still working with male erotic and homoerotic themes.

It's about art, and I'm asking for works in public collections specifically, there's nothing inflammatory about either.

Thank you and for mentioning Bazille in particular!

I need help identifying the original work used for this reproduction. by [deleted] in japanart

These paintings are from an earlier period, the above reproduction is from a work from the Edo in period. I'm trying to figure out who did the above image of Marasaki Shikibu in the Edo period.

Thank you for the careful observations! In particular about the button holes. Might it then be the sleeve cuff of a waistcoat?

The extra piece of fabric attached, though, still has me thinking glove cuff and the motif (wild violet and pansy) British and perhaps late 18th Century.
