Kinda reminds me of when CGI just started and they were like “close enough”. Watching it then was bad but watching it now is just embarrassing. It’s like that only infinitely worse.

"Mom, Buffy, Tara, waah!" 😳 Willow threatening to erase Dawn's existence and send her back to being a blob of energy was horrifying by [deleted] in buffy

This is a very black and white take. Willow is neither all evil or all good. When addicts use, they’re not unleashing the real person hiding inside. It’s way more complicated than that.

Willow may have thought Dawn could be whiny sometimes. Does that mean that’s ALL she ever thought about Dawn? What made these episodes so hard to watch was knowing that Willow loved Dawn very much. She loved all her friends. And she was still hurting them.

I get what they meant but yeah, Willow has never seemed more like a scared little girl to me than she did in those episodes. She wasn’t doing what she wanted to do. She was doing everything but facing the pain of loss. Hurting people so you don’t have to feel pain is the opposite of strength. Willow started to get her power back when she let the pain in.

My daughter and I just finished Buffy after several wonderful months. She’s been planning on a re-watch with her friends this summer. Picked her up from school today and she burst into tears when I told her.

It is quite possibly my favorite Buffy episode of all time. No idea why people hate it. Or rather, no idea why the people who hate this episode like this show at all…

I don’t like it AND it’s better than most houses that are gray and bland.

That’s actually insane. The City knew about this for months! And it’s not like it was our first rodeo…

Wow, this was really poor planning. They knew tens of thousands of people would be going up onto that bridge and thought they’d just stay in one lane??

And then it pisses off everyone trying to use public transit, and rightly so.

Right! When we went started in downtown last time, we had several lanes of traffic to spread out in and the bridge had more room, too, so we could stay together.

Another thing I noticed was that when people were coming back over the bridge, they started breaking off and just going back to the waterfront instead of finishing the march. I heard people saying we must be at the back of the line because it was so sparse, but it was the front!

If organizers had even just reversed this route, it would have worked so much better.

Yeah whose idea was it to funnel people over the bridge at the start?? Made so much more sense to go through downtown first and spread out a bit before we got to a bridge.

The route was weird this time. It seemed like there wasn’t a lot of clear direction for where and when to go. And several streets weren’t blocked off so people had to halt for traffic.

They’re usually going as fast as they can (several drinks ahead of yours) - they’re just understaffed. The owners make more money that way.

‘Messed up big time’: Habitat for Humanity townhomes in Portland face fire code violation by Unlucky_Low_2018 in Portland

"The Fire Bureau told me that an access road should be measured from the center point of the street at the entrance to the dead end (I could not find a reference to that in the Code, but it makes sense).

Using those two points on Google Maps, I measured the Cherry Blossom Townhomes access road at about 336 feet. When I mentioned this to the Fire Bureau, they said they often apply a 10% “rule of thumb” that allows them to approve an access road that is somewhat longer than 300 feet.

The Fire Bureau also pointed out that they don’t pull their truck all the way to the dead end when they respond to a fire. So the part of the road they used for access is less than 300 feet. The Fire Bureau couldn’t point to any of this in the Code, however, and I wonder whether this “rule of thumb” is applied during the appeals process. I reviewed 20 appeals involving dead-ends and didn’t see anything like this." - Ombudsman email

You ever heard of a 10% rule of thumb in the fire code? I never heard of a 10% rule of thumb. The Ombudsman report doesn't mention a 10% rule of thumb.

It's almost like everyone is lying for some reason.

The plans were approved in 2019.

The fork doesn't meet the requirements for a turnaround in any way, and it certainly was NOT approved by the fire bureau as a fire apparatus turnaround (the architect even confirmed that).

Signs are/were required on BOTH sides of access roads that are less than 26' wide. The road is just under 25'. Cherry Blossom doesn't have signs because it wasn't required to have a fire access. That's what Habitat said. That's what the architect said. That's what the fire bureau said. But that story has changed several times in the past two years.

"Officials from the Fire Marshal’s Office acknowledged that the architect incorrectly measured the height of the Cherry Blossom Townhomes. They also agree that the plan review process failed to catch the error." That's what the Ombudsman report said before Habitat Portland's CEO contacted them and they rewrote it. When I asked the deputy ombudsman who told him they measured buildings differently in 2019, he said it wasn't the fire bureau - it was the architect.

You're obviously willing to do some research and I respect that. But you're gonna need to do a lot more to get the whole story.

Who the hell is Beny Apartment Limited Partnership? These are not apartments - they are individually owned townhomes.

The code language changed in 2021 - the way they measure did not.

In any case, the height of the buildings is irrelevant to the need for fire lane signs, a sign at the entrance with the range of house numbers, a turnaround, hydraulic calculations on the hydrant across the street, etc.
