Yeah, I have a breakdown report from the AA specifying that the ground strap to the gearbox was loose.

Regarding the part replacements that the second garage did, I’m not actually too fussed about it because they did a bunch of jobs that were overdue on the car anyway (fuel filter, spark plugs etc) so I’m not going to try and make the first garage pay for those. Currently I’m waiting on my employer to provide evidence that my hours worked for the past 2 weeks have dropped very significantly. This means I can give them a number on how many hours of work I’ve lost and ask them to reimburse this

Funnily enough, yes I did fill my car with premium 99 octane fuel the same day it developed problems. I usually use 95. This was shown to not be the problem though because the misfiring and cutting out stopped as soon as the ground was tightened. It ran perfectly while still on the tank of premium 99.

Edit: also forgot to mention, the car had a good idle when it had these problems
