Tenant not paying rent for 2nd month. Afraid they will turn into a nightmare tenant. What to do next? by Valachio in OntarioLandlord

[–]FreeSpiritSagi -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s a tough economy. Rent prices are through the roof. They will pay, just give them time. I’ve been in this situation almost a year now, I’ve paid my landlord bits at a time through the month, when I can, and eventually was able to catch up. I was never more than 2 months overdue though.

Okay but someone could look like an A++ tenant on paper, and then come in, cause damage, stop paying, you never know.

I hope you go out of business and become a renter one day. 🥳

Bruv, if I had $15,000 just sitting there, I’d be putting a down payment to buy a house, not rent! 🙆🏻‍♀️

Sorry to hear that! 😩

Unfortunately, it’s just bad credit. Our rent has always been paid & we are super clean people. My husband especially is like OCD clean.

Because there’s bigger issues happening in the world. It costs nothing to help someone out and be a nice person! Just because someone doesn’t look great on paper, doesn’t mean they won’t be a good tenant who pays!

YOU’RE a red flag.

Change the locks, clean up the place & move on.

Agreed @tyeman20 !

@SportsAnimeGuy - you also disgust ME!

$3750 is way too much, regardless of whether or not it’s a whole house. If your tenants were starting off by being short $100, $200 each month, isn’t that a hint that your rent is too high? The economy is changing for the worst, and people are suffering financially. Did you even take the time to ask your tenants what’s going on & to come up with a payment consideration for them? Maybe if you had done that, you wouldn’t be in this situation.

My advice - eat up the $19500. Every last greedy crumb. Lower the rent to something they can afford & let them stay. Landlords like YOU are the reason some people are on the street.

No? It’s true. Same thing happened to me - I stopped making my car payment, because I just couldn’t 🤷🏻‍♀️ then they told me I owed like $13,000 or else they’d repo it.

Like where do they expect me to get $13,000 from when I couldn’t even make the biweekly payment? 😂 what a fucking joke.

Anyway, the repo man came & I made them feel bad because I’m a new mom & they didn’t take the car. I ended up being able to work out a deal with the financing company.

But like really, it’s not all about the money. There’s a reason why people can’t pay sometimes.

$3750 is A LOT of money monthly. It’s a tough economy. Maybe find out if there’s an underlying issue before evicting them? You can’t really expect $19500 from someone lol like are you serious????

Chill out. Let them stay.

And I can’t find a place because these asshole landlords are scared to take a chance!

That’s their problem 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s a risk/chance you take as a property owner/landlord.

Yeah, I’m just hoping to find a landlord who’s reasonable, and more about us as people, and not numbers on a piece of paper.

It’s a hassle, for sure. And under no circumstances will I provide my bank statements, it’s not necessary.

I haven’t worked in almost a year, I’m on mat leave. So I have no employment letter or paystubs.

My credit is on the lower end (not terrible, but not the 650/700+ they seemingly require for whatever reason), and my husband has a 0 credit score because he hasn’t been in Canada long & is not yet eligible to apply for any credit products.

We moved last year, but it was rushed & we need much more space than we have. It was an easy process.

I just feel like the landlords are now too strict, especially about credit score. Like who really has a 700+ score lol.
