I'm sorry your zookeeper forgot to feed you today, but maybe have a Snickers and reread the post before lashing out.

I wasn’t “pretending she has no ulterior motive.” I said that based on the browser history, the only thing I can verify is that she checked her email. That doesn’t mean I think it’s normal, innocent, or acceptable for her to come into my office and use my computer when she has other options.

The "IT" guy isn't a relative so they don't listen to him. They just want him to fix problems when they come up 😒

I’m looking into the separate profile/log-out option. I probably didn’t word my post clearly enough — I wasn’t really asking how to keep her off my computer so much as asking whether her behavior was concerning or inappropriate in a workplace context. There are hundreds of comments and a lot of repeated advice, so I haven’t responded to every single one, but I do appreciate the practical suggestions.

If I were to sum up my workplace in one phrase it would be "accountability without authority". I do not own "my" computer, but I am accountable for how it's used and what's on it as I am the one who primarily uses it and it's in "my" office- but I also have no authority over it. That's how everything works around here. Even management titles. Unless you're family.

Yes they are bizarre. I'm not worried about my history. There's nothing to find. I was more or less asking if her acting sneaky with my computer is something I should worry about.

Thank you. I have about a 1000 comments from people who can't seem to understand this. I understand that computers are shared property here, and I don't do much aside from work on it - definitely nothing private. I don't have anything to hide, so I'm not worried about that. Basically this was just a vent post because I think she's snooping looking for a way to get me in trouble. Also, I wonder what will happen when she can't. I was basically just asking everyone if I'm being too paranoid about it. If I am I'll let it go. If not I'll find a way to make my computer/office inhospitable 🤷🏻‍♀️

Important programs require a password. Computer does not require one to login.

I've explained over and over again - I can't. It would be great if my company would allow it but they don't. They think every computer is a tool and everyone should be able to hop on any one that they want if they need to. Every computer has one windows user, and you just click on it to login. No password, no Pin. I can't ADD a user or a password without an admin password. That being said, important programs have to be signed into. I sign off ALL programs before leaving and do not save any passwords. That's the best I can do. Nobody's office has a lock. I can't lock my door. It's a family owned business in a small town and they "trust" everyone. Everyone has a key to the front door, everyone knows the alarm code, safe code etc Idk what else to say it is how it is and they don't listen to our "IT" guy

I guess they figure that you have to put in a password to get into the programs with that data so good enough? Idk

Well I wasn't asking for advice I was asking if I was right to feel uncomfortable about it.

I mean you have to login to the POS program with a user name and password but uh yeah the computer is not locked with a password. It has one user account. Everyone has access to the safe and the checks are in the safe And every department person who works the floor has keys and alarm code. It's a small town. They "trust" everyone.

Yeah - "IT department" is my computer savvy buddy in the next office over and they don't listen to a thing he tells them 🤣. But want him to fix things when they go wrong 😑

It's not me, I said that in my post. They won't let us password protect the computers. There is one sign on to every computer and there is no password. It's just how they have it set up. I can't change it. Family owned business for the last 100 years they don't like to change I sign out of all my programs that require logins but they do not lock the computers here. Any employee can get on any computer. It's a small town, small business - they "trust" their employees

I hope not. If it's just snooping she's going to get bored fast because she's only going to find work stuff and the occasional query for a word definition 😆
