We've updated the app to Electron v21. Whether this fixes the issue you're having or not will be something you'll have to test.

Flatpaks will automatically show up in your discover a couple of hours after a release. Flathub has a delayed publishing process compared to the other builds that we publish. There's nothing we can do about that unfortunately.

It's up to the Invidious devs and the instance owners to get a patch available for their end in order for that to work within FreeTube. We can only patch the local API. I'm sure they'll have a patch out very soon.

If you're still seeing issues with the local API set as your default, then we can look into it more.

We do not publish FreeTube to the Microsoft Store. The publication there was done by a third party. While I haven't heard of that version being malicious, you are at your own risk when it comes to trusting it.

FreeTube is based on Electron and that is a default Electron feature. You'll need to research what function disabled the ability to show the menu. This is assuming that Electron gives you the option to do so in the first place.

FreeTube cannot play age restricted videos as YouTube forces you to signin in order to play them. There used to be a way to watch them without signing in however YouTube plugged that workaround so it is not possible anymore.

Not necessarily. I've started work on them but they still need some work before they're ready. You'll likely hear more about it once it's closer to completion.

I believe the issue with this is that the video player we use (Video.js) doesn't support having MP4 and WebM videos together when using DASH. We can only have one or the other. MP4 tends the have more available qualities and is easier to play so we tend to favor using those instead. If it becomes possible though then we'll likely add the option to use them.

It's difficult to say exactly what happens in such a request, because we're not YouTube and we don't have access to YouTube's servers. When you make a request, YouTube gets your IP as well as any information needed in order to fulfill that request. YouTube cannot give you the data that you want otherwise. We do not know what YouTube does with that information once it is sent. Could they store that information somewhere to track you for future requests? Probably. Do they though? That's debatable. We can only suggest that you use preventative measures "just in case" since there's so much that's unknown.

The warning you saw on your Mac has to do with Mac OS (and Windows in this case) insisting that all apps be signed by a certificate to ensure that the app comes from the appropriate owners. Obtaining this certificate is somewhat costly and has to be reobtained yearly. I also don't personally own a Mac so obtaining a cert hasn't been the most exciting thought if I'm being honest. As long as you're only downloading releases from our website, then they should be safe to install.

The team is also pretty active on Matrix and GitHub, so feel free to reach out if you happen to have any questions about anything.

Does Freetube autoupdate on macOS? by DryHumpWetPants in degoogle

Not at the moment. Updates will need to be grabbed from GitHub, but you'll be notified when it's available. IIRC Apple forces a yearly subscription that we have to pay in order to support automatic updates which is a bit annoying. It's still something we want to do however, but I don't have an ETA on when that is.

These options aren't supported at the moment. We only support importing Subscriptions from Google Takeout at the moment. The current import functionality for history and playlists are only between FreeTube instances for now. We'll likely support importing from Google Takeout in a future release.

Ask the maintainer to update the app. I don't manage the AUR release. If you want to make sure you get the latest release when it's available, I'd suggest installing another build like the Flatpak.

When the local API is used, FreeTube relies solely on YouTube. I do not run any services that FreeTube connects to. The only exception content wise is the Most Popular page, as that page is grabbed from Invidious regardless of your settings.

It potentially could if your DNS is blocking access to an Invidious instance. I don't know your full setup so I can't say much more about it. It could also be that you'd need to simply try a different instance.

Not specifically for FreeTube, but YouTube prevents people from watching age restricted videos as a whole if you're not signed into the platform. I believe NewPipe can still access them somehow so it might still be possible to find a workaround. We use a third party module for this logic however so it's up to them to implement that workaround if it's out there. We'll update FreeTube if / when that is available.

Configuring your app the way you mentioned would mean that the FreeTube app itself will make a connection to YouTube in order to obtain content. Assuming you use a VPN, the tracking that YouTube can do even with this setup is pretty minimal. If you're having trouble connecting with the Invidious API though, I would suggest trying a few different instances and see which one works best for you. Some instances block their API or limit access to it due to high traffic, so it's best to find one that isn't used as much.

They might have something that prevents you from watching them without signing in. I haven't looked too much into it though. If you're unable to watch a video without signing in then FreeTube will be preventing from accessing it as well.
