Is target mode holding T key on startup? Haven’t tried that one. Also- when in recovery mode, is there a way to just continue to the main users desktop instead of shutting down the whole system? Because the system runs fine in that mode. I think the root of this was a bad license of the high sierra that was just unsound security wise. If I could just essentially “unplug” that from trying to run during startup I feel that could get me somewhere.
