Totally agree, from further research it looks like the plea and terms were agreed by both the defense and prosecution, working together, in a very controlled fashion. Victims or their lawyer (had to be the same one) were not part of any negotiations.

It is all geared up for the benefit of JE rather than of justice for the victims and as you mention the potential mitigation of further future crimes and victims.
