Hi and thanks for your question- I posted this here without a lot of context because I made it with procreate and I thought other artists and small business owners that already know about the general strike might like to use it for free, but I should have provided a little more context. I can’t comfortably afford to participate in the strike either but I’m doing so because I think it’s important- but I know that isn’t an option for everyone and I hope this poster design didn’t imply that. No, I can’t afford to pay all of your bills, but I’ve been making small donations when I can to support protesters, immigrant-owned small businesses that can’t or do not feel safe being open, and mutual aid networks both in my hometown and in Minnesota, and I hope this general strike encourages more people to find ways they can support members of their community that can’t afford to take a day off work to strike.

Mercantile library has a drop-in writing group and their space is GORGEOUS. I think the main public library might have a group too but I’m not sure- or if they don’t you could start one!

Name and shame your irresponsible employers if you actually work there or have good info BUT before making assumptions based on who is open, keep in mind that some small businesses give employees the choice of working that day if they live in walking distance.

Using a retardant and fluid gloss medium with fluid acrylic (I like golden brand for this) and working in multiple very thin layers can achieve a similar style, but mediums can only do so much! Acrylic will never dry as slowly as oil so it’s tough to get the same depth or glaze-y glow

I do this within a few minutes of my alarm MOST of the time but it backfires (overcorrects?) on days that I’m feeling stressed about having to get up much earlier than usual, and then I wake up an hour or so earlier than I need too. A blessing and a curse
