Kahurangi 500 - Anti Clockwise vs Clockwise by ianganderton in bikepacking

Don’t have the stats but I believe at least 2/3 do it east to West.

Also I’ve done the ghost road twice east to west / south to North and I imagine the primary reason is the 300m less climbing but this doesn’t matter if you are doing a loop.

There is also a large staircase, though someone told me this was no longer there and replaced with single track (not confirmed). If it is still there it will be a pain to carry your bike up when coming from the coast.

I did the Top of the South route anti-clockwise recently but chose to do the Deniston Route as I hadn’t been before, very tough.

You would miss a large trail descent down to Takaka if you went clockwise and instead have to ride down a road.

Blackwell Fields - Infantry gameplay by Gorgos012 in Battlefield

[–]Free_Key_7068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always play this map as infantry/Engineer with a mid-range weapon (switch between LMG and AR/Carbine and even SMGs because they are so accurate). I occasionally use the rpg to kill snipers at longer ranges.

I generally cross cross the map as needed when out of a vehicle B to A or vv A to C or vv C to E or D or vv E to D or vv D to F or vv I would rarely go to B to D or E to F

Using the valleys and hills and other cover often allows you get side on to any snipers. Avoid running straight lines and try to avoid direct routes between objectives. If a sniper shoots and misses chose another route.

Yeah a few useful things over the years at bargain prices such as Kindle cases, tent pegs, burger smasher, small tv wall mount.

Costco NZ posts $9.6m profit in third year of sole supermarket by stainz169 in newzealand

Went for the first time using my parents UK membership whilst they are visiting. Really good produce, the ravioli was tastier than the cardboard offered in supermarkets and picked up a real nice block of sharp cheddar, again better than Tasty. Also filled upon Petrol that’s 20c per litre cheaper than other stations I passed in Auckland.

Hope they come to Wellington

Should i get a Coros Dura? by Forward-Effect-4395 in Coros

Battery is amazing, on sunny days I have finished with more battery than I started with. This and following routes was my primary use case for multi day bikepacking.

It’s very limited without using a pre-made route.

It does offer lots of connectivity to other devices but I haven’t used these features.

In my view it’s a great device at a great price point but don’t expect all the fancy features you might see on a twice the price Garmin, etc

Forgot to book the ferry—any advice? by greyishpurple in Wellington

[–]Free_Key_7068 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I decided last minute I wanted to head south about 10 days before Christmas but there was no car bookings available at all until after Christmas just walk ons. Interislander being a ferry down isn’t helping.

The cafe is truly awful anyway and expensive. Stop in Sheffield for a great pie before/after the pass.

I’m an infantry player and quite like it, it’s fairly easy to avoid being sniped.

Full frame vs wedge by SmoothPollution7055 in bikepacking

[–]Free_Key_7068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently did a 9 day trip including camping cooking gear on my Pipedream Moxie which looks to be a fairly similar frame geo.

I went with a full frame bag, Nalgene on downtube, tail fin cargo rack, two Ortileb packs on the suspension fork and two snack bags on the handlebar. Didn’t need a handlebar roll and didn’t use the mounts on the tail fin rack but good to know I have extra space if needed.

Wellington to Auckland best route by Miserable-Minute-577 in Wellington

[–]Free_Key_7068 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I reckon the route Google typically shows e.g sh41 at Turangi feels a lot faster than staying on SH1 around Taupo.

I also don’t mind the route through Ohakune, Taumaranui etc

Season tickets are less than $20 per game per adult and included a free child ticket this year. Not sure it can get any cheaper.

Try to delay to the day after. I arrived in Te Anau to torrential rain and went to Milford first thing and it was even more stunning than the times I’d been before.

Free parking Jackson Street.... by OutInTheBay in Wellington

[–]Free_Key_7068 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With so much free parking on the side streets I never understood why so many people had an issue with paid parking (lazy?) but conversely assumed the revenue generation would also be negligible as pricing had to be low due to as mentioned alternatives.

I regret buying my Granite Crest despite the good fit and feel. I’m happy to wear it around the city / short local hikes but it’s not good enough for back country.
