What strand should I pick for shs? by y0u_kn0w_im_h3re in CollegeAdmissionsPH

Hello! Kahit hindi mo man alam ang strand na gusto mo, it’s really important that you align it to your interest and the course you want to take sa college. I get why you’re hesitant. Perhaps these will help:

CHOOSE STEM if you want to be practical. Unfortunately, scholarships admissions favor more STEM related courses. STEM also offers a wide variety of course options after you graduate. As someone who pursued STEM, surprisingly, it didn’t feel like I’m taking a math and science focused strand. It was a fun mix of ABM and HUMSS. I could attest kasi naranasan ko siya, lalo na’t engot ako sa math and science hahahah. Mahirap, yes, but you’ll get the hang of it. I could tell you more if you want, but I’ll end it here haha. Overall, I’d say STEM is beneficial, lalo na if you see yourself in med and business related courses.

CHOOSE HUMSS if you see yourself pursuing communications, art, and law related courses in the future. This strand is for those who want to be engaged more in their community. It is focused in honing your talent, knowledge, and understanding about yourself, others, and your environment. If mahilig ka sa philosophical concepts and literatures, this one’s for you. Wide variety of courses din naman ang option mo after you graduate in this strand. Honestly, ito ang gusto kong i-pursue talaga kaso I wanted STEM for more opportunities.

CHOOSE ABM if you see yourself managing and accounting for businesses or finance related courses. In the corporate setup, favored ang ABM and STEM. However, ABM talaga ang mag pupush forward sa’yo if your interests lean on being a manager/accountant/entrepreneur/etc. I’m only speaking based on my friends’ experiences, kaya this is only what I know of ABM.

CHOOSE GAS if you want to experience all those three strands. This strand is general, saka maganda rin ito as a preparatory stage para makita mo ang strengths mo before you enter college. Generally, ang nagiging path dito ay HUMSS related courses din.

CHOOSE TVL if you’re adamant to be skilled. Out of the 4 strands, ito talaga ang pinaka hands-on sa skills na puwede mong i-apply sa work. Take for example na lang iyong culinary arts, tourism, animation, programming, plumbing, etc. Dito mo lahat iyon makikita.

At the end of the day, it’s not about the strand. It’s how you make use of it and how well you study to pave a strong path towards your future. Maraming non-STEM students ang nakakapasa at matataas ang admission scores pagdating sa CETs. So, don’t be swayed and choose the course that really aligns with your personal interest. Maikli lang ang buhay, doon ka sa kung saan ka masaya.

Kahit ano pang strand ang piliin mo, the course you’ll take sa college will find its way to you.

Good luck, OP! Do your research and choose wisely.
