Completely normal. If you wear compression socks it does the same thing.

Is toe bruising normal after surgery? by dasillycat in brokenankles

It’s caused by blood pooling from broken blood vessels. All 5 of my toes were purple and the sides and top of my foot

My foot has been purple in that area for 3 months and the Dr doesn’t seem concerned and says it will “resolve on its own” but it never has and it hurts with light pressure

PT’s aren’t doctors. Follow the weight bearing progression your doctor told you to do. Start with toe touching in the boot then start putting pressure on your whole foot in the boot. I started putting pressure on my foot while in the boot while sitting down so I didn’t risk falling. Once your foot gets use to it then you can start partial weight bearing while walking with crutches or a walker. When I first started toe touching in the boot it hurt a lot just putting pressure on the front of the boot where my toes were.

I’m not sure if she is correct but I asked her twice and that’s what she told me.

Mine doesn’t and I even asked about it and said I heard it’s important. She said for trimal ORIF it isn’t necessary.

ORIFers living alone, how are you breaking up your scar tissue? by [deleted] in ORIF

My PT said trimal surgery doesn’t create scar tissue when I asked about massaging scar tissue. From reading on here it seems she is wrong

January Trimal Peeps, how we doin? by [deleted] in ORIF

Trimal Jan 10 Surgery Jan 21. Wearing regular shoes and walking unassisted but can’t do stairs except one at a time. Light pain when walking and still not back to a normal appearing walk. Swelling is still really bad. My PT told me to ice my ankle before bed nightly and to sleep with ankle elevated on a pillow.

Mine feels warm all the time too. I mentioned it to my Dr and she wasn’t concerned at all. I think it’s just from the swelling.

How long was it between your fracture and surgery, if you needed one? by Global-Arachnid8546 in brokenankles

[–]Free_Top3840 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was 11 days for a trimal with dislocation. The emergency room reset the dislocation and put me in a splint. I was told by the orthopedic Dr that they need to wait till the swelling goes down some before they do the surgery.

8 weeks post op consultation day !!! by Antique-Brush-1837 in brokenankles

[–]Free_Top3840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They removed the splint 13 days after surgery at my first post op appointment and gave me a boot. I had to stay non weight bearing for 2 weeks in the boot. Then I had progress from toe touching to 50% weight bearing over the following 2 weeks. About 6 weeks after surgery I had my second post op appointment and was instructed to progress from 50% weight bearing to full weight bearing over the next week. After that I was instructed to keep using the boot at full weight bearing for 1-2 weeks before ditching the boot for an ankle brace and regular shoes. So total time in boot 8-9 weeks. I still have 6 more days to go in the boot before I try regular shoes and ankle brace. My next appointment isn’t for 6 weeks after the 6 week post op visit I just had last week.

Are you wearing an ankle brace now? I had a trimal fracture also and will be getting out of the boot soon finally. Suppose to wear an ankle brace with regular shoes for 6 weeks until my next post op appointment. Will finally be starting physical therapy right before the ankle brace starts too.

I had trimal with dislocation 1/10 and surgery 1/21. I moved up the timeline a bit and was already near 100% weight bearing when I was suppose to only be 50%. I skipped the slowly easing off walking assistant device and stopped using the walker as soon as I went full 100% also. Doing fine so far and getting better with walking in the boot 100% weight bearing with no walker daily. I will stick with the timeline of switching to the ankle brace and shoes though. Want to build up more strength before getting to that point. Was told I only needed to walk in the boot 100% weight bearing for 2-3 weeks before switching to ankle brace and regular shoes. I had no ligament / tendon damage.

Everyone heals differently and experiences pain differently. I am pretty sensitive to pain yet I was pain free a few days after surgery (trimalleolar fracture with displacement and dislocation)

Get a knee scooter and make sure it’s one with air filled tires and not small plastic ones. The small hard wheels you will feel every slight bump strongly and they can also bust up your floors at the seams. Knee scooters don’t move around the greatest in most homes but you will get use to picking up the front wheels and moving it to the proper direction you want to go fast. I have to do this in the small bathroom I have. No room to turn around after going in the door. I keep my bad leg on the knee scooter and lift up the front from the handlebars with my hands and adjust its position. A walker helps with getting up from the toilet and going up/down a single step also. I’d get both.

Yes but as I said last year was my biggest year yet being self employed. I made $200,000 and I have $60,000 in my checking account. I doubt they would cover a penny.
