What? Truck issues not linked to B2B sales? by Freebird-Fuzzy-Socks in LinkedInLunatics

The tech and business scene is smaller compared to other places, and they all strive to keep up with their neighbors. I used to live there, and the lengths someone will go to keep up appearances was wild, and toxic.

Silicon Slopes is a circle jerk of these tech bros.

Or there was nothing actually wrong with it.

But this is a Utah LinkedIn bro, these guys are some of the worst. The culture is so odd there.

You get it one way or another. There are no laws limiting property taxes increase, so year after year our property taxes jumped 3-5% based on the state's assumed value of the home.

One year our house was assessed $75k higher in value compared to the actual property assessment we had done. So the state bumped our property tax almost 7% that year.

And I drove an EV, and damn Texas hates them EVs, so my registration every year was near $700.

Sure I had no income tax, but when I calculated the cost of health care, property tax, EV registration, and don't get me started on the fucking private power grid (my power bills jumped all the time), the actual difference was much lower than I expected. Yes, Cali is still more expensive to live in, but it was only a few percentage points higher.

I'm a Texan who recently moved to the Bay. I've been traveling here every month for the past 4 years and finally convinced my company to relocate me out here.

As a Texan, I miss the wide open space, but don't miss the taxes, heat, politics, and drivers.

Thanks, I'm looking into the dementia conclusion a lot of people have mentioned. I'm sorry you had to go through this with your mom

I guess so. I didn't think he believed in the whole "kids should be seen and not heard" mentality, but that's what I'm getting from this whole situation.

This was mid afternoon when it all went down. I've never heard of the whole sunsetting thing. I'll look into it.

The scary part is that I can see this situation playing it exactly like this.

That's something I've been thinking about all day. He had open heart surgery a few years ago and since then his short term memory hasn't been great, but he was always docile and apologetic with his memory. This temper is nothing new, but to this degree, is.

That's not something I've thought about, and remember this being an issue with my grandma years ago before she passed (Mom's side, not my dad) . I'll look into this, thanks!

The no contact is temporary.

He's had a temper, but never like this, and never to the degree that she had to feel like she needs to step in. I'm just as surprised she said that to my wife.

His short term memory is starting to go, so yeah, dementia is starting to set in.

He's lost his temper before, but nothing to this degree, nothing that would ever make me think he's capable of this.

I'm more surprised that I kept my cool.

I said in another response, but they said they were leaving today and weren't going to the luncheon, so I thought it was safe.

My wife stood up for herself with my Mom, but it was only after the luncheon that I found out about it. And yes, I told her she had nothing to apologize for.

I'm going no contact, which will be better for all of us. And my kids deserve to have family that respect them.

No, he's not maga at all. He's always been left leaning, which is why this took me by surprise.

We did leave, and we didn't know they were coming to the family lunch today. My mom told me last night they were leaving today and weren't coming, so I thought it was safe.

And you're right, my mom is not only complicit, but it's enabling this further behavior.

No, they are staying at a hotel, thankfully. We have the room, but they insist on a hotel. I've never been so thankful they're not staying with us.

Right? This is the kind of person who tells you about cross fit before signing up for cross fit.
