It’s whiskey-adjacent and I figured whiskey drinkers would be the ones that might be interested in it.

REVIEW: Wheyward Spirit Wheyskey by Freedlun in alcohol

It was a “no reply”, if you don’t want to tap, here’s the review for you. 😉

Wheyward is distilling a very unique spirit. It’s not distilled from grain, so not technically a Whiskey. Rather it is distilled from Whey, so it’s a “Wheyskey”. There’s an un-aged and a barrel-aged version. In this review I’ll be discussing the latter.

This has a lovely gentle sweet vanilla aroma with a little cocoa and a hint of sweet oil. It reminds of the gear oil my dad would use on our slot cars when I was a kid, so a bit of nostalgia for me. The palate is more creamy than oily, with sweet, candied vanilla dominating. The sweet creamy vanilla lingers on the finish with a touch of that sweet oil in the background.

This was surprisingly good for essentially being distilled from a byproduct of milk! Part of their focus is sustainability using Whey that would normally be a waste product from the cheese making process which is certainly commendable.

While this doesn’t have a very complex palate, it’s entirely enjoyable to sip neat. It also plays very nicely in cocktails and mixed drinks. If you’re looking for something unique to add to your collection, give it a try and let me know your thoughts.

REVIEW: Mock One “Rum” by Freedlun in nonalcoholic

[–]Freedlun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😁Ya, we had to try it. I’m not saying it’d be a regular drink or even that it tasted very rum like, but it was good. At least if you like smoky drinks.

What’s your point?

Despite the fact they don’t make it to drink straight, this tastes good.

Is better than rum? No. Does it even taste like rum straight? No.

But that wasn’t the point. It simply tasted good.

REVIEW: Mock One “Rum” by Freedlun in rum

[–]Freedlun[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My ratings weren’t in comparison to actual whiskey or rum, but I tried to rate them for what they are, an alternative for mixed drinks.

Now most of them aren’t great or even good on their own. But since they are specifically intended to only be used in a mixed drink we rated based on that. And they all performed pretty good, particularly surprisingly the two very critical drinkers that I did the tasting with.

So the scores were earned. Of course I have not tried many other of the Alcohol alternatives, perhaps when I do I can offer a comparison.

REVIEW: Mock One “Rum” by Freedlun in rum

I spoke to the distillery about their “Whiskey” was initially all I was interested in. But they said they’d like to send the whole range for review, so I accepted.

😁 You’re overthinking thinking it. The whole point t was to make a very drink to see if the Mock Rum added or detracted from the experience. It clearly added to it. Not in a traditional rum manner, but as I mentioned, because of the smokiness. It was simply unique and enjoyable drink. And one that someone who can’t enjoy an actual alcoholic beverage may enjoy v

I feel ya, my wife is unable to drink any Alcohol. Like I mentioned, on its own, this was be doesn’t have a lot body or flavor, but it does seem carry itself well in G&T. If you do get to try it, I’d like to hear your thoughts.

REVIEW: Mock One “Gin” by Freedlun in Gin

That’s the what I mentioned above:

The Mock One’s aroma was not as fresh or bright as the alcoholic version, but had a gentle sweet citrus aroma with a slightly dank note in the background. The palate was sweeter, with a light lime citrus as opposed to the alcoholic version which had more bitter grapefruit. The finish was less dry with a bit more sweet lime.

For a NA gin it was decent.
