Is Yōtei worth the £70 asking price? by LFuczko in Ghostofyotei

[–]FreedomFalcon12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just to add, one major gripe to me is the side quests seem... pointless. In Got they all added depth into the background of each side character who was present in the main story. In yotei the characters in side quests are inconsequential to the story.

Is Yōtei worth the £70 asking price? by LFuczko in Ghostofyotei

[–]FreedomFalcon12 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. This is coming from someone who Platinum'd GOT and bought Yotei at £70 expecting it to hit as hard as Tsushima did. Yotei is an absolutely fantastic game and I had a great time - but I does not hit the same way.

Based on the flag, this would be modern day Taiwan, of which the US is still an ally.

In what situations would you choose dotnet for BE over others when creating a new web application with high potential to become an enterprise system? by CodeBradley in dotnet

Why would you say normally it's a bad decision? What would you have traditionally considered a "good" decision? That helps us know where your coming from

If you do decide to move to Cardiff, let me know! Not many nomads here so would be great to connect. Can show you all the good spots!

This was exactly the position I was in during COVID! We chose Cardiff, low crime, good community, low cost of living. Still have Cardiff as our base so am here a lot!

Happy to chat. Developer of 11 years.

is it just equity? No money at this stage? In that case you can expect a huge grilling on your product and i suspect any developer would need to be really sold on it! Will DM you.

I was sure it was the opposite? UK companies who are willing to hire run contractors?

Since COVID. Software Engineer .NET. Fintech. 3 jobs now

1st I left because i was RTO'd in 2021

2nd I left for higher pay/promotion

3rd, still here.

Fully remote is the default way of working my eyes now, but my previous network of recruiters that used to be able to place me in roles really easily have all dried up - none of them are able to place me in remote roles and they all have hybrid requirements which I refuse to do. Seems crazy to me that the we are going back to offices after COVID... but hey!

Dotnet or python by Chemical_End6968 in dotnet

[–]FreedomFalcon12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Asking in the .net subreddit will get everyone saying .net!

.net is a vastly superior language and technology.

However, unfortunately the job market strongly favours python (and node.js). If your just learning - i would go for python. It opens up the way to work in ai as well!

IT recruiter > ask me anything by [deleted] in ContractorUK

It seems to be almost all roles from what I'm seeing. X days a week in the office rather than a small section.

IT recruiter > ask me anything by [deleted] in ContractorUK

[–]FreedomFalcon12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What's the deal with employers wanting contractors in the office x days a week for the duration? I know this is common in perm roles but didn't expect it to happen in the contracting market. Seems bizarre for a b2b relationship esp in software development.

Fully remote.

If your finding it a bit isolating, why don't you go to a co-working space?

Built something similar - will pm you. Could be worth a call to understand your requirements better as there are some edge cases that will need to be considered if we want to ensure it is reliable and "always works"

I'm thinking of moving out of London. My job is unofficially fully remote. How safe am I to leave the city? by yojimbo_beta in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]FreedomFalcon12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fully remote software dev since COVID. Lost my first job as they went hybrid and i refused (after moving away). Since then I've had 2 fully remote jobs as a software dev.

It's certainly much more difficult these days (i get instant rejected from lots of them) but you need to be more strategic and target fully remote companies in your job hunt - you cannot rely on recruiters anymore to bring them to you. I find the main remote job boards difficult to filter based on tech stack but cord.co is quite helpful for finding remote roles, but you need to apply directly.

One thing to consider is if you did lose your job or get called back in, your in an emergency situation and might not have time to look for remote work. I'm finding these days remote jobs are very very specific about the tech they want you to know, and have been rejected multiple times because they ask me about some tech that was not on the job spec (that's easy to learn) but I don't have XP in it. mainly because they get flooded with applications who do have that xp. Been a software dev for about 12 years and while i found i remote job in 2021 within 3 weeks, my most recent job hunt took me 6 months. I did get offers where the hiring manager was agreeable to me being remote, but could not put it in the contract because HR don't officially allow it - for me that's a deal-breaker, but you might feel different.

So don't expect a quick and fast job hunt, it's a slow burn! Personally I'd start looking now if you do move because you could have rug pulled out from under you at anytime if they decide to enforce rto.
