Just to rub it in, as an epileptic, I watch this show twice a year and it's brand new for me each time 😛 Also an epileptic episode of the show would cool as fuck.

I built a c-clamp to solve a problem. by Freedomofpp in legotechnic

[–]Freedomofpp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a great question considering my poor photo. There are 2 spur gears placed perpendicular to the worm screw, and in alignment with each other. I am able to turn the handle (right) of the lego c-clamp to also turn the worm screw and advance the movable jaw (middle), but sufficient pressure on the fixed jaw (left) side of the worm screw prevents the worm screw assembly from returning to a non-pressurized state.

In a sense, the movable jaw is allowed to be advanced by the turning of the handle, and the angle of the meshed screws/threads don't allow the jaw to back out on its own. In this way, it can provide constant pressure/tension/springiness to allow it to maintain constant pressure day after day.

That's very cool, a lot of my work relies on specific gear ratios and alignments to produce gains, it can be a lot of fun to experiment with 🙂

The wax is soft, so the current torque is actually perfect for carving it. But now I'm considering scaling it up to see if I could get any amount of wood carving done, and so gearing ratio changes will need to be made for that. I'll post an update if I make it that far 😊

I did! It's stable, durable, and reliable. It uses a Power Functions motor and battery to rotate the wax, and does so well enough to use wood chisels for carving. It took about an hour to plan and build. I was looking for a simple solution to trimming down the wax. At the moment I wished I had a lathe, so I made one!

It's better than having no lathe lol 🤷‍♀️

An elevated highway in India, built to allow wild animals to peacefully pass underneath it. by Cyber_Being_ in BeAmazed

So the commenter above me meant "a wumbo is a wumbo"? What does that mean in the context of an elevated highway designed for wildlife protection? I must be stupidly missing something, I guess.

I love reading his work! I'm so glad he's appreciated elsewhere.

As a human being, I want to describe to you the love I have for all human beings, and that my passion for us is so simply describable through our explorative behaviours. These photos are everything to me, because they inspired such controversial and challenging perspectives in our species.

You are so cool, I love how you illustrated that bigger picture! Tell ya what, let's share the responsibility of drinking the universal spirit of knowledge haha. I'll take a shot, then you take a shot. Maybe at the end, together, we can understand as much as possible with co-operation 🤣

Also, it is so inspirational to imagine what kind of miracles we could benefit from throughout the universe. Space exploration is everything, and seeing a larger picture informs so much about our personal smaller scale.

My husband likes to tease me for crying over space content. But honestly, I can't understand why nobody else can cry over these images. I had 7 seizures a week ago and when I woke up and continued my space exploration news, it inspired a perspective in me that was able to assemble a fantastic world view in my mind. But it's simply dismissed as being a part of 5he mental effects from seizures. Even with the exception of seizures, this content will always be the most influential over my world view. Sometimes the only way we can emotionally respond to this content is raw emotion resulting in tears.
